Caterina Scorsone To Be Series Regular On PRIVATE PRACTICE

Caterina Scorsone, who appeared on five episodes of PRIVATE PRACTICE last season as Dr. Amelia Shepherd, a neurosurgeon and sister of Grey’s Anatomy character Derek Shepherd, is being promoted to series regular. Talking to TVGuide.com, Scorsone gushed about the news. “It’s so fantastic for so many reasons. The set is really a wonderful environment. Everyone is generous and fantastic, so to know that’s going to be my home for a while is pretty nice.”

Amelia was introduced late in season 3 when Oceanside Wellness sought a consult for one of their patients from a famed neurosurgeon and Amelia was on the team. She quickly became the go-
to neurosurgeon and was last seen operating on poor doomed Dell Parker. Because she is Derek’s estranged sister, there is ample opportunity for crossovers with Grey’s Anatomy and Scorsone told TV Guide she would welcome the chance though it makes her nervous. “It is a little bit intimidating, knowing how passionate people are, wanting to honor their expectations in the relationship with Derek, who is so deeply a part of people’s emotional journey on this show.”

The fourth season of Private Practice will premiere on October 10, 2010 at 10 pm and Scorsone says there will be a time jump of a few weeks from the finale so that characters will have had a chance to process the tragic events of the finale.
