HOW THE EARTH CHANGED HISTORY [Blu-ray] Review

How the Earth Changed History [Blu-ray]

The BBC has released a stunning 2 Disc Blu-Ray (Yay!) called HOW THE EARTH CHANGED HISTORY. This is the type of DVD you hate when you’re forced to watch it in high school science class but you love to watch as an adult.

The 2-disc set contains 300 minutes of footage and was released on June 29, 2010. It is narrated by Scottish geologist Iain Stewart. Stewart is a popular television geologist and has presented other related series including “The Power of the Planet” and “How Earth Made Us”. He does a great job in this Blu-ray disc and is a big reason why I enjoyed it so much.

I liked How the Earth Changed History because most history series concentrate on how man has shaped history. This series shows how the Earth has shaped man’s decisions from the very beginning. And we thought we were the ones in control? We learn how many civilizations were drawn to certain areas of the Earth that had above and below ground water supplies. How the Earth Changed History also illustrates how fault lines rich in minerals were a beacon for many up and coming civilizations that needed the land for farming. One of the most compelling sections for me was a part about Wind. Which, sounds like an innocent enough topic, but jet-streams have surprisingly had their hand in everything from wars to slave trade. How the Earth Changed History focuses on other elements as well as how humans have adapted their lives to them throughout time all the way to present day. Trust me, after watching it, you’ll never look at mother nature the same way.

The HD quality is good, but it isn’t as crisp as I’ve seen in other Blu-rays of the same genre. Overall, How the Earth Changed History is a great Blu-ray though, well narrated and a fun watch. Check it out and let me know what you think.
