WAREHOUSE 13 “Time Will Tell” (Season 2 Premiere) Early Review

Warehouse 13

The other day in the mail I got a super surprise: an early copy of the season premiere of Syfy’s hit show, WAREHOUSE 13! After taking a few minutes to get some popcorn and my favorite beverage I watched it and all I can say is WOW. I loved this episode and hope you will catch it when it airs on July 6 at 9 PM Eastern Time on Syfy.

For those of you who didn’t see Warehouse 13 during its first season, let me give you a quick rundown. Pete (Eddie McClintock) and Myka (Joanne Kelly) are two Secret Service agents who are transferred to the middle-of-nowhere South Dakota to work at a warehouse full of odd and mysterious items. It turns out that the government has been collecting different relics and devices with strange powers over the years and storing them in the Warehouse under the watchful eye of Artie (Saul Rubinek), who runs the Warehouse and makes sure its contents are safely contained. Pete and Myka go out into the world and try to collect new artifacts by following up on leads of strange or paranormal behavior, usually finding themselves battling a strange force or power that is contained within the artifacts themselves.

In the Season 1 cliff-hanger finale, MacPherson (Roger Rees), an ex-agent of the Warehouse and Artie’s nemesis, has been captured by Pete, Myka, and Artie for trying to sell powerful Warehouse artifacts to the highest bidder. As punishment, MacPherson is bronzed (think Han Solo in carbonite in Empire Strikes Back) and joins a number of other infamous villains who are trapped in bronze at the Warehouse. As Artie and the agents go back to replacing the lost artifacts, MacPherson is freed from bronzing by Leena (a local B&B owner that helps Warehouse 13 agents) while incriminating Artie’s assistant, Claudia (Allison Scagliotti). Leena puts the Warehouse in a lockdown mode to help cover MacPherson’s escape, but Artie figures out what happened and gives chase. Artie is soon trapped in a hallway, which blows up when MacPherson sets off a self destruct device. Pete and Myka look on from the locked Warehouse control room, not knowing if their friend is alive or what’s happened with MacPherson.

As the Season 2 premiere “Time Will Tell” starts, Pete and Myka are searching the rubble of the explosion for signs of Artie, while Mrs. Fredericks (CCH Pounder) is injured in an accident. MacPherson and Leena use this distraction to sneak another powerful item out of the Warehouse without being detected. The Warehouse 13 team has to refocus their energies into tracking down MacPherson and the stolen article before anyone else gets hurt, while also trying to figure out who’s the mole inside the Warehouse.

Overall I thought the episode was great and one of the best Warehouse 13 episodes so far. It’s a great setup to the rest of the season. The biggest surprise in the episode is what MacPherson takes from the Warehouse, it was an awesome concept and I can’t wait to see how the writers incorporate it into the show throughout the season. The show’s cast was as solid as last season, and it was nice to have Mrs. Fredericks have a larger role in this episode something we didn’t get enough of last season. The best on-screen time, though, was between Artie and Claudia, their comedic timing was spot on and their characters really mesh together. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Remember that Season 2 of Warehouse 13 premieres July 6 at 9:00 PM EST on Syfy.
