EUREKA “Founder’s Day” (Season 4 Premiere) Early Review

Eureka (Syfy) Season 2 Premiere

I had the opportunity to get an early peek at the awesomeness that is EUREKA’s season premiere episode, titled “Founder’s Day”, and it was amazing! Before jumping into a quick recap of the episode, lets take a sec and go over what happened during last season’s finale “What Goes Around, Comes Around”. In that episode, Sheriff Carter (Colin Ferguson) had to deal with a magnetic force threatening the town, his daughter Zoe (Jordan Hinson) was accepted early to college, and his girlfriend Tess (Jaime Ray Newman) surprised him with news that she’s taking a job offer in Australia. The last scenes in the episode showed Carter coming to terms his daughter moving on, and then he decided to take a trip to see Tess.

“Founder’s Day” starts off with Carter jogging through town trying to avoid all the activity surrounding Eureka’s Founder’s Day setup. As he makes his way through the different areas, we learn about some of the events that have happened since last season, and there are definitely some surprises. Nearing the end of his run, Carter finds himself unexpectedly transported to a strange, but familiar place. While he tries to understand what has happened and where he is, Carter runs into some friendly faces and a mysterious Dr. Grant (James Callis – Baltar from Battlestar Galactica), who used to live in Eureka. Soon, Carter realizes he has to get back to where he came from before it’s too late or everything he knows could change forever.

This was not only one of the best episodes of Eureka I’ve ever seen, it’s one of the best science fiction TV episodes ever. I have to give credit to the show’s producers and writers for the way they handled the whole episode, because it could have easily turned into a bunch of cheesy, over used cliches, but instead it was fresh and kept you on the edge of your seat. The episode wasn’t all special effects and weird technology, the acting and the plot were amazing and the surprise twists at the end of the episode have made Eureka a must watch show for the rest of the season.

Remember that Season 4 of Eureka premieres July 9 at 9:00 PM EST on Syfy. Watch the episode, then come back and tell me what you think this means for the rest of the season.
