AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER The Complete Book 1 Collector’s Edition DVD Review

Avatar: The Last Airbender The Complete Book 1 Collector's Edition

You might have heard about The Last Airbender because of M. Night Shyamalan’s movie that’s about to come out to theaters on July 1, but what you might not know is that the movie is based on a really great Nickelodeon animated series, AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER.

If you haven’t had a chance to watch it yet, now is the time, especially since the Collector’s Edition of Avatar: The Last Airbender The Complete Book 1 is getting released today, June 22. I was able to take an early look at the DVD and it’s full of fun goodies and a really beautiful cover that fans would love and newly adopter will appreciate.

Included in this edition is The Complete Book 1 Collection DVD which features all the 20 episodes from Season 1. If you’re new to the show, the first thing you need to know is that Avatar: The Last Airbender appeals to both kids and adults alike. There is something really beautiful about the story that can be appreciated by people of all ages. During the first Book, we meet Aang, a 12-year-old Airbender who also happens to be the new Avatar, master of all four elements (air, water, earth, fire). After disappearing for 100 years, Aang is rescued by a Waterbender named Katara and her warrior brother Sokka from an iceberg. Together, they will go on a quest to defeat the Fire Nation, which started a war against the other nations, and thus bring peace to the Four Nations of the world. But in order to do so, Aang will have to master all four elements.

And so throughout the first 20 chapters we follow Aang, Katara, Sokka, Appa (Aang’s flying bison), and Momo (Aang’s lemur) as Aang tries to master its second element: Water (Aang already masters Air since he’s an Airbender).

In addition to the episodes, some of the bonus features included are:

– Behind-the-Scenes with the Avatar Cast & Crew
– Avatar Pilot Episode with Audio Commentary
– The Making of Avatar – Inside the Sound Studios
– The Making of Avatar – Inside the Korean Animation Studios
– Avatar Documentary

I personally got a kick out of watching the people voicing the show. I just love getting a peek at them recording the voices. But that’s just me, there are also plenty of other things that you’ll love digging into.

And even thought the Book 1 DVD is already pretty great by itself, the Collector’s Edition also includes a bonus DVD which contains a really great behind-the-scenes documentary from the creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko that reveals the story behind the creation of the series. If you’re a fan, you’ll love to watch it.

But that’s not all, the Collector’s Edition also includes an exclusive preview edition of Avatar: The Last Airbender – the Art of the Animated Series book, which features a peek at the designs, storyboards, paintings and animation of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Overall, I had a lot of fun checking out all the goodies featured in Avatar: The Last Airbender The Complete Book 1 Collector’s Edition, as well as watching Book 1 all over again. Now all that’s left for me to do is to re-watch Book 2 and 3 as well. And so I definitely recommend you check out this really incredible series, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
