Gabrielle Union To Star In Army Wives Spinoff

Army Wives - Gabrielle Union

Lifetime has moved closer to a spinoff of its wildly popular Army Wives series after the network cast Gabrielle Union in one of the show’s lead roles. According to The Live Feed, Lifetime is planning to air an “embedded pilot” during a special episode of Army Wives near the end of the fourth season to set the stage for a spinoff.

The special episode of Army Wives will feature current wife Pamela Moran returning to her former career in law enforcement. She rejoins the police force in Atlanta, Georgia as a detective. Union will play the role of her partner, Detective Gina Holt. Embedded pilots are a new tool to produce without added costs and placing a pilot into the Army Wives schedule will take advantage of the show’s nearly 3 million viewers.

Several members of the Army Wives creative team are attached to the new project including writers Bruce Zimmerman and T.D. Mitchell as well as producers ABC Studios and the Mark Gordon Co. Union most recently appeared on TV in ABC’s “FlashForward” as Zoey and also on NBC’s “Life.”
