LIE TO ME “Beat the Devil” Review

Lie to Me Season 2 "Beat the Devil"

There is no doubt about it, LIE TO ME is one of my favorite shows on TV and let me tell you, it returns stronger than ever.

In the new episode, “Beat the Devil,” Lightman’s former mentor, Helen Dezekis (played by Rowena King), invites him to her class for a little demonstration, there Lightman identifies one of the students, Martin Walker (played by Jason Dohring) as a psychopath. With no one believing him, Lightman now has to prove he is right and stop Martin before he kills again. As for Loker and Torres, they take on a case helping a small town teacher prove he is telling the truth about a UFO sighting.

“Beat the Devil” is quite an intense episode that will keep you guessing until the end. If you’re already a fan of the show, you’ll be happy to know that Tim Roth continues to be absolutely brilliant (and pretty much the reason why this show is so great) as Cal Lightman, and this time he even gets challenged by someone that is no so easy to read, Martin Walker played by Jason Dohring. Dohring is really great as a possibly psychopath student and fans of his will really enjoy seeing him in such a different role.

In “Beat the Devil,” Lightman also has to deal with his feelings towards his former mentor, Helen, whom he used to be involved with and whom also gets involved in his new case. I personally found this story captivating and it kept me on the edge of my seat.

On the other hand the Loker and Torres story felt more like a filler and was definitely not as dark and intense as the Lightman story, but it had some good moments.

And finally, we once again learn more about the signs of deceit. I just can’t get enough of it.

Overall, a great start for the new episodes of Lie to Me that you should not miss. So don’t forget to tune in tonight, Monday June 7, 2010 at 8pm on FOX.
