Cartoon Network Greenlights THE GREEN LANTERN

The CEO of Time Warner’s networks division, Phil Kent, gave a presentation outlining new original programming for Cartoon Network, according to THR Blog. The presentation included a mention of “Green Lantern: The Animated Series.”

Barry Meyer, CEO and chairman of Warner Bros. entertainment division cited the cartoon as a demonstration of the increased collaboration between his unit and parent company Time Warner. In a statement released this week, he confirmed that the Cartoon Network program will be based on the comic series by DC Comics. It will also tie in with Warner’s highly anticipated “Green Lantern” movie, which has been scheduled for release in the summer of 2011.

The Cartoon Network TV series is then expected to launch two years after the studio’s cinema release.
