Syfy’s WITCHVILLE Review

Lately, I’ve been loving everything the Syfy channel has to offer, so when I got the chance to check out an advanced copy of their new original movie titled WITCHVILLE, I jumped at the chance. The movie will air this Saturday, May 22nd at 9/8c PM. It stars Luke Goss (Hellboy II), Sarah Douglas, and Ed Speleers (Eragon).

The plot is fairly straight forward. Price Malachy (Luke Goss) takes over the rule of his kingdom after his father is no longer able to serve. With the help of his Knights and a Witch Hunter, Malachy sets out to defeat the Witches that have been destroying the kingdom. The Witches are led by The Red Witch played by Sarah Douglas. The highlight for me was the Knight played by Ed Speleers. He looks so sexy in medieval garb.

Unfortunately this movie falls short in the same ways that Eragon did. It’s low budget, the fight scenes are mediocre, and overall it’s fairly cheesy. The story was decent, but not enough to make up for the rest. My husband liked it a little more than I did, so perhaps the movie skews more male. Nevertheless, I have to give this movie about 2.5 out of 5. I wouldn’t say you should skip it completely, but it might be better suited for your DVR rather than dedicating your whole night to watch it. Also, don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t so bad that it put me off watching another original movie from Syfy, it was worth checking out, just not my cup of tea.
