Mia Michaels To Replace Mary Murphy as a Judge on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE

So You Think You Can Dance Season 7 Judges

It seems that Mary Murphy won’t be returning as a judge on Season 7 of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. Fox has just announced that Mia Michaels would replace her and join Adam Shankman and Nigel Lythgoe as a resident judge this season.

“I am extremely happy that Mia and Adam have returned and agreed to be resident judges,” said Nigel Lythgoe, executive producer/co-creator, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. “Mia’s outspoken approach combined with Adam’s passion will definitely add a fresh new chemistry to the panel.”

If you remember last season Mia Michaels left the show and didn’t choreograph any numbers as she usually did, and unfortunately for us it seems that this season we once again won’t have the pleasure to see some of her new creations since she will be sitting as a judge.

As for Mary Murphy, her leaving will make So You Think You Can Dance feel like a different show, the same way American Idol feels different without Paula Abdul. And since it didn’t really work out too well for American Idol, I have some concerns as to how it will work out for So You Think You Can Dance. Plus how will we live without Mary’s screams?! Aren’t they like a trademark of the show now?

So You Think You Can Dance returns for its seventh season Thursday, May 27 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), and Mia Michaels won’t be the only thing different. We also recently talked about the new format adopted this season with only 10 finalists competing paired up each week with a different former SYTYCD finalist, and one dancer eliminated per week.

With so many changes, it’ll be interesting to see how fans of the show will react to the new format. What are some of your thoughts? Do you like some the changes implemented this new season?
