Wondercon Review: FRINGE “Olivia. In The Lab. With The Revolver.” Season 2 Episode 17

Yesterday at Wondercon, I had the opportunity of watching an advance screening of the upcoming episode of FRINGE titled “Olivia. In The Lab. With The Revolver.” airing April 8 2010 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

“Olivia. In The Lab. With The Revolver.” takes place right after the spring premiere of Fringe “Peter” in which Walter revealed to Olivia that he kidnapped Peter from the alternate universe. Due to that confession, Olivia is torn because she doesn’t know if she should tell Peter the truth or not. All throughout the episode, she keeps waffling back and forth between those two options at least until the very end. The investigation itself is somewhat interesting but not very memorable. It involves a man who seems to have the ability to transmit his cancer to other people. The only part that jumps out is that his illness is related to the experiment Olivia was subjected to as a child.

My issue with Fringe right now is that I can’t get over what Walter did. While I understand that he did not act out of malice, the man still stole someone else’s child. That is just not OK, regardless of the circumstances surrounding it. The fact that Olivia is hesitating is also kind of frustrating. I was expecting the character to be the voice of reason who would say something along the lines: “Dude, WTF? You stole a kid?”. Maybe I am missing an angle but I am having a tough time getting over this.

Anyway, “Olivia. In The Lab. With The Revolver.” is a good Fringe episode but doesn’t ultimately advance the whole Peter angle too much. Still worth a watch in my opinion, especially if you don’t mind scenes of Walter making taffey and baking human skin at the same time (I know, eww). Anyway please do not hesitate to share your thoughts below and also if you want to read more from me, stalk me on Twitter..
