LEVERAGE “The Runaway Job” and “The Bottle Job” Review

Timothy Hutton, Beth Riesgraf, Christian Kane in Leverage

LEVERAGE returns tonight, January 13, and continues its second season with a brand new episode “The Runaway Job” at 10pm on TNT.

I got a chance to take an early peek at the first two episodes and it’s so much fun to see the team back in action.

In the first episode “The Runaway Job,” the team cons the owners of a clothing company, who mistreat their employees. In order to do that they’ll have to pass themselves off as famous designers in the fashion world, but it turns out not to be as easy as they expected. But as always in Leverage, everything is not always as it seems and the episode will keep you guessing until the end.

In the second episode “The Bottle Job,” which I thought was so much fun, the team needs to run a fast con on a loan shark in order to save McRory’s bar, which is tied to Nate’s childhood.

I felt the second episode was really strong, even stronger that “The Runaway Job,” and that comes from the urgency of doing the con. Because they only have a few hours to pull it off, the team needs to get everything right and fast, there is no room for mistake. Unfortunately, that puts a lot of pressure on Hardison, which fortunately for us leads to a lot of funny moments.

Unfortunately for fans of Sophie Devereaux (Gina Bellman), she is not back with the team. Instead Tara (Jeri Ryan) will continue to be a temporary member for a few episodes. I personally miss Sophie, there’s just something she adds to the dynamic of the team that I like. That said, I do not dislike Tara, she can hold her own with the team, which makes the show still enjoyable.

Overall, Leverage comes back as strong as it left and I will be eagerly awaiting Sophie’s return. But in the meantime, it’s still going to be a fun ride. So make sure you don’t miss tonight’s premiere “The Runaway Job” at 10pm on TNT, and next week’s episode “The Bottle Job” on January 20.

And of course, share your thoughts on the new episodes once you’ve seen them in the comments below. Do you like Tara or do you miss Sophie like me?
