SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE (2009) “Top 14 Perform” Review July 2, 2009 Reviews, So You Think You Can Dance Last night the top 14 performed on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Season 5 and I do have to apologize for only posting the review now (some technical problems, that I won’t get too much into). But let’s find out how all the dancers did. Janette Manrara & Brandon Bryant – Cha Cha Choreography: Jean Marc & France Genereux Music: “Hush Hush; Hush Hush” by The Pussycat Dolls Thoughts: These two are one of my favorite couple and I really enjoyed watching their cha cha. Rating: 3/4 ___________________________________________________________ Kayla Radomski & Kupono Aweau – Contemporary Choreography: Sonya Tayeh Music: “Eyes on Fire” by Blue Foundation Thoughts: Wow, that was a really great performance and choreography. Sonya is really a great choreographer. Rating: 4/4 ___________________________________________________________ Randi Evans & Evan Kasprzak – Broadway Choreography: Joey Dowling Music: “Rich Man’s Frug” from Sweet Charity (2005 Broadway Revival Cast Recording) Thoughts: These two are one of my favorite couple and I did enjoy their performance but wasn’t blown away by it. Rating: 3/4 ___________________________________________________________ Caitlin Kinney & Jason Glover – Pop Jazz Choreography: Brian Friedman Music: “Creator” by Santigold Thoughts: First of all I LOVE this song, I actually have it in my car right now, so that’s already a positive thing. And I thought the performance was so AWESOME and I loved that the choreography really was on the beat of the music. Rating: 4/4 ___________________________________________________________ Jeanine Mason & Phillip Chbeeb – Hip Hop Choreography: Napoleon and Tabitha Music: “Love Lockdown” by Kanye West Thoughts: I thought that was so original and so much fun. Rating: 3/4 ___________________________________________________________ Melissa Sandvig & Ade Obayomi – Ballet Pas de Deux Choreography: Thordal Christensen Music: “Romeo & Juliet Prokofiev’s Suite No. 1 Op. 64b, 6th Movement” by Orchestre De La Suisse Romande & Armin Jordan Thoughts: I don’t know, I have mixed feelings about this one. First of all the fact that the only ballet dancer, picks the first ballet dance on SYTYCD sounds a little fishy to me, but I can get over that. The other thing is that while I used to like watching ballet, it’s not that exciting to me anymore. It was just ok for me. Rating: 2/4 ___________________________________________________________ Karla Garcia & Vitolio Jeune – Quick Step Choreography: Jean Marc Genereux Music: “Puttin’ On The Ritz” by Rufus Wainwright Thoughts: I thought it was an ok routine and performance. Wasn’t blown away, but didn’t hate it either.
