NURSE JACKIE “Pilot” Review

Edie Falco as Nurse Jackie

NURSE JACKIE is the new Showtime series starring Edie Falco who plays nurse Jackie Peyton who is an atypical but talented nurse who juggles the tough task of managing grabby doctors, youthful nurses, unusual patients and her own personal issues which include but are not limited to drug addiction, infidelity and issues with authority.

After seeing Nurse Jackie‘s pilot episode, I was delightfully surprised at the amazing quality of the show. It’s well written with strong characters and interesting stories. Edie Falco brings her patented cold stare that she honed on the Sopranos and wields brilliantly as Nurse Jackie. In addition, unlike Carmela Soprano, the character of Jackie gives Edie the opportunity to showcase a certain ease that I hadn’t previously seen from her.

But hold on, this is not a one-woman show. The characters surrounding her do an excellent job of being more than figure heads. The writers really did a good job of breathing life into what is a solid cast of cooky and fascinating plethora of individuals that make Nurse Jackie a must see.

Overall, I am really taken by Nurse Jackie and hope that it will build a solid audience. I strongly recommend you watch it. I am looking forward to hear your comments on it.

Nurse Jackie premieres Monday June 8 at 10:30 ET/PT on Showtime. If you are reading this and haven’t seen the episode yet, watch the first Nurse Jackie episode here.
