New TV on DVD Releases for the Week of May 19 2009

Here is a list of the new TV DVD Releases for the week of May 19 2009 (for movie releases head over to Daemon’s Movies):

Must Buy

True Blood (The Complete First Season)

Synopsis: In the not-too-distant future, vampires have come out of the coffin. Thanks to the invention of mass-produced synthetic blood, vampires no longer need humans for their fix and can walk freely, if not yet comfortably, among their living counterparts – though they can still come out only at night.
Meanwhile, in the backwoods Louisiana town of Bon Temps, Sookie Stackhouse works as a waitress at the down-home bar Merlotte’s. Though outwardly normal, she has unusual qualities of her own: Sookie can read minds, which complicates her world in endless ways. But Sookie’s life becomes a lot more interesting when Merlotte’s gets its first vampire patron – the 173-year-old Bill Compton – and the two outsiders are immediately drawn to each other.

Cast: Anna Paquin, Ryan Kwanten, Rutina Wesley

Recommendations: True Blood is the best show on television right now, so this is a no brainer for me, you’ve got to get this DVD.

Friday Night Lights (The Third Season)

Synopsis: The series follows the events surrounding the Dillon Panthers, a high school football team based in fictional Dillon, Texas, with particular focus given to the team’s coach, Eric Taylor and his family.

Cast: Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton, Zach Gilford, Minka Kelly, Taylor Kitsch, Adrianne Palicki, Jesse Plemons, Aimee Teegarden

Recommendations: Friday Night Lights has one of the most powerful performances on TV, so do yourself a favor and get the DVD.

Must Rent

24 (The Complete Seventh Season)

Synopsis: It’s been three years since CTU agent Jack Bauer thwarted a terrorist attempt to plunge the United State into war. Now he’s back in L.A. after working undercover for six months bringing down drug lord Ramon Salazar. But then the FBI receives a phone call threatening the release of a deadly virus in Los Angeles if Salazar isn’t released from prison within six hours. As CTU races to locate the virus, Jack realizes that the only way to prevent additional terrorist demands is to find the source of the virus — by breaking Salazar out of prison himself.

Cast: Kiefer Sutherland, Carlos Bernard

Recommendations: Jack Bauer is at it again and I think fans of 24 will enjoy this season, it doesn’t disappoint.

8 Simple Rules (The Complete Second Season)

Synopsis: 8 Simple Rules is about a married couple with three children, set in a Detroit, Michigan suburb.

Cast: John Ritter, Katey Sagal, Kaley Cuoco, Amy Davidson, Martin Spanjers, James Garner, David Spade

Recommendations: I don’t think this is the best half-hour show you’ll ever see, but some of you might find it entertaining, so why not?
