GREY GARDENS on HBO Review

Grey Gardens

GREY GARDENS, a new HBO original movie will premiere tonight, Saturday April 18, at 8pm.

Grey Gardens follows the lives of “Big Edie” and “Little Edie” Bouvier Beale, played by Dew Barrymore and Jessica Lange, relatives of Jacqueline Onassis, who spent their eccentric lives in a decaying house called Grey Gardens. The two women were also the subject of a classic 1975 documentary by the Maysles Brothers. The movie actually uses the filming of the documentary as a backdrop to telling the story and we follow the two ladies over four decades of their lives.
Daniel Baldwin and Malcolm Gets, Ken Howard and Jeanne Tripplehorn also star.

When I first heard of this movie, I got really excited, not only was it an HBO film, which pretty much guaranteed some great acting, but it also had a great cast and such an fascinating story.

Now that I have seen the movie I can honestly say that HBO has done it again. Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange give an unforgettable performance and you will be captivated from beginning to end.

I didn’t know about the Grey Gardens story and hadn’t seen the documentary, but the movie does a really great job of bringing them alive and showing the audience what kind of people the two Edies were.

If you are a fan of HBO films, then you will definitely enjoy Grey Gardens. It’s a very simple story but one you will remember for a while.
