HARPER’S ISLAND “Pilot” Review

Christopher Gorham as Henry Dunn, Elaine Cassidy as Abby Mills and Dean Chekvala as J.D. Dunn

HARPER’S ISLAND is a new mystery event on CBS starting tonight, Wednesday April 9 at 10pm.

However, Harper’s Island is not your typical TV show because it actually has an ending and will only last 13 episodes.

The other interesting part about Harper’s Island is its format. The show will follow a family and friends as they travel to a secluded island for a wedding. While this all sounds very festive, what they don’t know is that a killer is on the loose and that one by one he will claim victims among the guests and people on the island. Every episode someone will die and everyone is a suspect. The good news is, all questions will be answered and we will find out the identity of the killer on July 2 at the end of the 13 episodes.

The incredible cast of Harper’s Island includes Elaine Cassidy, Christopher Gorham, Katie Cassidy, Cameron Richardson, Adam Campbell, C.J. Thomason, Jim Beaver, Matt Barr, Amber Borycki, Richard Burgi, Dean Chekvala, Ben Cotton, Beverley Elliott, Chris Gauthier, Harry Hamlin, Gina Holden, David Lewis, Ali Liebert, Brandon Jay McLaren, Claudette Mink, Sean Rogerson, Ana Mae Routledge, Cassandra Sawtell, Sarah Smyth, and Victor Webster.

Since I have already seen the first episode, I can tell you that Harper’s Island turned out to be better than what I first expected. Dare I say I’m even excited about this whole mystery event.

The feeling that I got while watching the first episode was the same feeling that I used to get when watching slasher movies like “Scream”, “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, “Urban Legends”. Don’t ask me why but I used to love them. And trying to figure out who the killer was and his reason was always the best part. And now we have 13 episodes to try and figure it out ourselves with a new victim every week.

The first episode starts out with the family and friends of the bride and broom gathering on a boat ready to leave for the island on which the wedding is going to take place. We meet Abby Mills (Elaine Cassidy), the groom, Henry Dunn’s (Christopher Gorham) best friend. The story behind Abby is that her mother was killed on the island seven years ago by a homicidal maniac. She now has to face some ghosts from her past by coming back on the island.

As for the rest of the guests, we’re going to find out more about each of them since it seems like they all have their share of secrets.

And finally, someone will of course die in this episode – unfortunately I have been sworn to secrecy and can’t share the identity of the first victim. I do have to admit it was pretty shocking, but to be honest so far I have not idea who the killer could be, but I can’t wait to find out.

Don’t forget that Harper’s Island starts tonight, April 9, at 10pm on CBS.
