Tim Roth talks about LIE TO ME February 20, 2009 Interviews, Lie to Me By now you already know that I am a big fan of Fox’s new show, LIE TO ME, and so it was with great interest that I took part in a conference call with Tim Roth, who plays Cal Lightman, a few weeks ago. As the star of the show, Tim Roth has to learn some of the science of lying. But turns out he tries not to take any of it home with him. Paul Ekman, the man on which the character of Cal Lightman is based cannot switch it off, and Tim Roth doesn’t want to do that. Tim Roth seemed however really excited to be part of the show, which he calls a fun experiment. His approach of taking things as they come is definitely helping make the show what it is. Even though each episode of Lie to Me, has a story of the day, if you will, there will also be things that carry through, like Gillian’s husband’s secret life. In fact, something will eventually be revealed, but not necessarily in the way we might expect it to. And if you thought you knew everything about Cal Lightman, well don’t get too cozy because although you might think he is all good, Tim Roth did reveal that there was a darker side to the character, which is bound to make the show even more interesting. And finally, one of the things that I was very curious about that Tim Roth did talk about is how they deal with guest stars and making sure they get the right expressions needed for each episode. As you can imagine, it’s not that easy for them, especially when they have the act with a camera very close to their faces. Overall, what I took away from the call was that there is much more coming in Lie To Me, and Tim Roth is just happy to be part of it all. So don’t forget to watch Lie To Me on Wednesdays at 9pm on Fox. And just for fun, check out the seven expressions all portrayed by Tim Roth himself. Look at them, memorize them, and start recognizing them.
