Executive Producers Ron D. Moore and David Eick Talk about BATTLESTAR GALACTICA’s Last Season

Battlestar Galactica Cast

Just took part in a conference call with Executive Producers Ron D. Moore and David Eick who talked about the last season of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, which premieres its last season on January 16, at 10pm. I don’t know about you but I cannot put into words my excitement for the final 10 episodes. Finally all our questions will be answered (well at least according to them.)

Before I get into everything that was talked about, I need to start with the most important information uncovered during the call:

The revelation of the fifth cylon will NOT be in the final episode. Yes, that means that we have less than 10 episodes to wait in order to find out the ultimate Battlestar Galactica secret. Unfortunately, they still wouldn’t tell us who it was. What they did talk about is how they chose the final cylon. Even though they had a pretty clear idea of who it was going to be, they still looked at other candidates, but ultimately stuck with their first choice. According to them it made the most sense because of the mythology of the show and what it means to the characters. Is it January 16th already?!!!

Now that’s out of the way we can focus on what else was said during the call.

Ron D. Moore and David Eick said that Battlestar Galactica ends the way they intended it to. We’ll have to wait and find out whether that’s a good thing.

They did mention that they tried not to answer every single thing in the last episode, but to do it gradually throughout the season.

The discovery of Earth throws everyone’s life into question, and it’s all about finding out what happens to the characters now. As for the final 4, it’s sort of the same for them. Where do they go from here? In addition, they have questions about their origins and what it means for them as cylons.

So is the end going to be satisfying? We don’t know, but what we do know is that it’s pretty definitive. This is the end of the story and while some things might still be ambiguous, the vast majority of the questions will be answered.

But Battlestar Galactica‘s end is not the end for Ron D. Moore and David Eick, they both have various projects underway. Like a little show on the Sci Fi channel called Caprica, which was already given a full season. The season will start shooting in July, but for now they are putting the writing staff together. Writing should start in February 2009. And I can tell you they already have an idea of the main overall story. They are going to set up Caprica so that you won’t need to watch Battlestar Galactica or know anything about it to enjoy it.

Ron D. Moore is also working on a pilot for Fox called Virtuality, but so far he is just waiting to see what happens with it, meaning will it get picked up.

In addition, Ron D. Moore is also currently working on some rewrites for the remake of the feature film The Thing. Once again though he is waiting to see whether it happens.

And finally if you were wondering about The Plan (the Battlestar Galactica TV movie), while it doesn’t have an airdate yet, it is being edited right now.

And that’s all I have for now, but with only 10 days to go before the premiere, hopefully this will hold you over.
