Lifetime’s “SEX AND LIES IN SIN CITY: The Ted Binion Scandal” Review

Ted Binion (Matthew Modine), Sandy Murphy (Mena Suvari)

Lifetime will premiere it’s original movie, SEX AND LIES IN SIN CITY: The Ted Binion Scandal, tonight, October 25, at 9pm.

Starring Mena Suvari, Matthew Modine, Marcia Gay Harden, and Jonathan Schaech, Sex and Lies in Sin City: The Ted Binion Scandal tells the true story of wealthy Las Vegas casino heir Ted Binion and the circumstances surrounding his death – and the resulting trial to determine whether he overdosed or was murdered by his lover and her boyfriend.

This was not the best Lifetime movie I have ever seen, but it was entertaining and interesting. I always enjoy movies based on true events. That said Sex and Lies in Sin City only recounts the trial surrounding the death and assumptions of what happened to Ted Binion, so if you watch the movie thinking you’re going to learn the truth about what really happened to him, think again. But if you just want to learn more about the story or just enjoy watching the actors, then tune right in.

Mena Suvari portrays Sandy Murphy well, I really empathized with her. And Matthew Modine, well he’s just great as Ted Binion. This movie deserved a strong cast to tell the story and I think it got it.

Originally, I didn’t think the story was going to hold my interest, but it did. The more I watched the more I was curious about what happened and how things were going to turn out.

The only negative thing that I have to mention was the way the story was told. There was a little too much back and forth for me, that at some point I got confused about where in the story we were. Other than that, if you have nothing to watch tonight, why not give Sex and Lies in Sin City: The Ted Binion Scandal a shot.
