SUPERNATURAL Season 4 News & Spoilers

Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki

The good news is that SUPERNATURAL returns next week on Thursday, September 18, at 9pm on The CW for Season 4. The even better news is that back at Comic Con, Daemon’s TV got to speak with Supernatural‘s creators, writers, and cast, who got us quite excited for the new season.

And so without further ado, here are some of the things you can look forward to in Season 4 of Supernatural. Be aware that there might be some SPOILERS revealed (although I don’t think anything major), so read at your own risk.

We first got to speak with Eric Kripke, creator of Supernatural. He told us that Season 4 of Supernatural will take place 4 months after the events at the end of Season 3. We will find out what Sam has been doing by himself and what Dean did in hell. However, we are not going to see much of hell this season because of budget restrictions. The last shot from Season 3 was very expensive (but so effective, if you ask me). The big question this season is how Dean got out of hell and in what state of mind he is now. Remember that 4 months on Earth feels a lot longer in hell.

Brittany Ishibashi, A.J. Buckley, Travis Wester

Some familiar faces will be back this season like the Ghostfacers. They are currently working on spin off webisodes and cell phone content. We got to speak with the three stars of Ghostfacers: A.J. Buckley, Travis Wester, and Brittany Ishibashi. While they were shooting the Ghostfacers episode for season 3, they had a really great time and sometimes laughed so much that they had to walk off the set. They are really excited about the fans’ response and they told us that there are a lot of surprises coming up. There was actually some talk to put them in a real haunted house and film what happened, but for some reason they didn’t seem too eager to do it…chicken! But seriously, these guys were fun to talk to.

Sera Gamble

The next person we talked to was writer/producer Sera Gamble. She talked about how the mythology this season is really awesome. “The boys” – as she calls them – are at the top of their games and she promises some really good acting. Obviously, there was a lot of things that she couldn’t talk about, but among the ones she could, we learned that there will be a lot of mysteries this season. The worst thing that could have happened to Sam happened, and now it’s time for us to see how he dealt with it.

This season will also feature Mary and John Winchester (Sam and Dean’s parents). One of the episodes will explore their relationship and how they met. Sam and Dean are hungry for links to their past. Episode 4 will be a “Back to the Future” episode, which sounds really fun.

Sera Gamble also explained that the way they write for the show now is impacted by the actors. They know hot to write to their strength and I think it shows. Every season has gotten better and better.

Next, we got to speak with co-executive producer/writer Ben Edlund, who told us that this season, they will expand the universe of Supernatural. They are very ambitious to write lots of different stuff and are really enjoying themselves doing it. Among the future episodes, one will be shot in Black and White to pay homage to the 30’s horror movies (how cool!) and one will feature a 7 feet tall teddy bear (totally looking forward to that one), seriously.

Jensen Ackles

Finally it was time to speak with the stars of the show. First up Jensen Ackles who plays Dean in Supernatural. He told us that this season Dean is introduced to the mythology in the show, the same way Sam was introduced to his destiny in previous seasons. Once again, he mentioned that this season would be focused on why Dean came back and what it means. Dean is still the same guy but being in hell did affect him in some way.

Jensen Ackles

This season will also introduce new characters, as well as see the return of old ones. Some of them will be part of Dean’s mythology.

As to what type of scene he likes to do best, Jensen Ackles said that he would rather do physical stuff than emotional scenes. He explained that with emotional scenes, even though your mind knows it’s not real, your body doesn’t. So for example if you have to do a scene four times with four different camera angles, that’s 16 times total and thus very exhausting.

Jensen Ackles

And finally, you’ll be interested to know that in order to film the last scene in hell from season 3, Jensen was actually hanging by some meat hooks through prosthetic arms.

Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki

The last person we talked to was Jared Padalecki who plays Sam. He told us that this season we would see a new side of Sam. He has spent four months living without his brother and hasn’t kept in touch with anybody. At this point Sam is very suicidal in the sense that he is not careful anymore when he goes on cases, he just goes.

This season, Sam and Dean will both have secrets, which will be revealed throughout the season.

So there you have it. Pretty exciting, right?

Season 4 of Supernatural premieres on Thursday, September 18, at 9pm on The CW.
