DVD Review: DEXTER Season 2

Dexter DVD

Season 2 of Showtime’s original series, DEXTER aka our favorite serial killer, was just released on DVD yesterday. And since I was able to take a look at it, I thought I would share some of my thoughts about it.

First off, if you are not watching Dexter yet, now is your chance to catch up on one of the best shows on television. This is coming from someone who didn’t care about Dexter when it first came out. At the time I had too many other shows to watch and honestly didn’t think Dexter was going to be that good. How wrong I was. During the summer I decided to give Dexter a shot and I was hooked. Right after that I watched Season 2 when it aired on TV last Fall.

Which leads me to the Season 2 Dexter DVD. Getting to watch Season 2 once more is just a treat. It’s amazing how much of the details I tend to forget, so it was perfect timing for me to watch it, right before Season 3. This is also your chance to (re)discover Agent Lundy and his influence over the department, Dexter and Lila’s (whom I still can’t stand) odd relationship, and Sergeant Doakes relentlessness to find the truth about Dexter.

This season of Dexter was such a strong one. You really notice the evolution of the character from Season 1, which keeps you at the edge of your seat. The writers are not afraid to show us the inevitable things that happens with a character like Dexter, and I just love them for it.

The special features of the DVD unfortunately weren’t too exciting to me. They feature:

Two Second Seasons Episodes of Showtime’s Brotherhood
Via Bridge Technology: Michael C. Hall Podcast, Michael C. Hall Interview, the first two episodes from The Tudors Season 2 & Californication Season 1. (This is supposed to work only on your computer, but I wasn’t able to make it work on my mac, so that was really disappointing).

But I guess the special features are not really the most important thing for me about the DVD.

And so, this is a great DVD to have for the Dexter fans and for people who want to get ready for Season 3 of Dexter, which premieres on September 28 at 9pm on Showtime. Don’t forget to tune in!
