Review: SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE “Top 14 Perform” July 2, 2008 Reviews, So You Think You Can Dance The Top 14 performed on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE and each couple had to perform twice. I would also just like to say how much I loved Tabitha & Napoleon as judges. Moving on to the performances, let’s find out how everybody did: Jessica King & William Wingfield #1 Jive Choreography: Tony Meredith and Melanie Music: “Choo Choo Ch’Boogie” from Five Guys Names Moe (Original Broadway Cast) Thoughts: I thought the performance was very enjoyable. Will of course looked more comfortable than Jessica. It seemed to come very naturally to him, but she looked like she had to concentrate a little more to get through it. Rating: 2/4 Video: #2 Lyrical Jazz Choreography: Mandy Moore Music: “Alone” by Heart Thoughts: That was so sexy! And Will is so incredible. Jessica was really good too. This was a great performance. And the choreography was so beautiful. Rating: 4/4 Video: Comfort Fedoke & Thayne Jasperson #1 Broadway Choreography: Andy Blankenbuehler Music: “Cool” by Bernstein and Sondheim Thoughts: First of all I loved the song, so that was a plus. And the performance was really, really good. Both of them did so much better together than with their previous partner. I don’t know what Nigel was watching but I have to disagree with him. Rating: 3/4 Video: #2 Smooth Waltz Choreography: Edward Simon Music: “Hov Arek Sarer Jan” by New Ager Armenia Thoughts: These two are really so much better together and I really liked this performance. It was so beautiful and smooth. Rating: 3/4 Video: Matt Dorame & Kourtni Lind #1 Hip Hop Choreography: Cicely & Olisa Music: “How Do I Breathe” by Mario Thoughts: Oh man, I’m not even going to talk about Kourtni because that was terrible. Matt did ok, but man, I have to agree with Napoleon, if it was a hip hop a competition, they would have not made it through the first round. Rating: 1/4 Video: #2 Mambo Choreography: Alex Da Silva Music: “Ban-Con-Tim” by Super All-Star Thoughts: I thought it was ok, not great. It felt a little awkward, although I enjoyed watching Matt more than Kourtni. Rating: 2/4 Video: Chelsie Hightower & Mark Kanemura #1 Jazz Choreography: Mandy Moore Music: “Kiss Kiss” by Holly Valance Thoughts: I love the song, it holds so many memories (and a trivia fact for Moonlight fans, Holly Valance is Alex O’Loughlin’s girlfriend), but I just didn’t like the choreography, so it’s hard for me to have enjoyed the performance. I don’t know if it’s because I still remember the music video, but it just didn’t work for me. Although I guess Chelsie and Mark were ok. Rating: 2/4 Video: #2 Foxtrot Choreography: Edward Simon Music: “It’s My Life” by Paul Anka Thoughts: I thought they both danced it very, very well. And you can totally tell that this is Chelsie’s style. It was so seamless for her. She was great. Mark was holding his own up there too. Rating: 3/4 Video: Kherington Payne & Twitch Boss #1 Paso Doble Choreography: Tony Meredith and Melanie Music: “Malaguena” by Brian Setzer ’68 Comeback Special Thoughts: Damn, that was awesome! Kherington was amazing, wow, I am so impressed. And Twitch, he was so good too. Although I have to say Kherington outdanced him on this one. Rating: 4/4 Video: # 2 Contemporary Choreography: Mia Michaels Music: “Dreaming With A Broken Heart” by John Mayer Thoughts: I loved the choreography and how Mia Michaels used the lyrics of the song for the dance. Twitch and Kherington were so amazing. My second favorite couple now. Rating: 4/4 Video: Katee Shean & Joshua Allen #1 Contemporary Choreography: Mia Michaels Music: “Hometown Glory” by Adele Thoughts: Mia Michaels is a GENIUS! OMG that choreography was so beautiful. And Katee and Joshua, they remain my favorite couple. They are on FIRE!!! And tonight Katee brought Joshua to her level. So much emotion too. I mean there are no words to describe how amazing this was. I LOVED it! Rating: 4/4 Video: #2 West Coast Swing Choreography: Benji Schwimmer Music: “Shake It” by Brother Yusef Thoughts: My favorite couple did it again. And I repeat it, Joshua just seems like a natural at every style and Katee was rocking it out. Of course the choreography was quite nice. A pretty good performance. Rating: 3/4 Video: Courtney Galiano & Gev Manoukian #1 Hip Hop Choreography: Cicely & Olisa Music: “Lights, Camera, Action!” by Mr. Cheeks Thoughts: I will admit that I thought Courtney was going to be bad, but oh man was I wrong. How AWESOME was she! She was even better than Gev. That’s how you hit it and dance hip hop. Maybe she should teach all the others who can’t hit it. Oh and Nigel is so wrong about Courtney, I mean who are we going to trust? Him or Napoleon & Tabitha? Seriously, Nigel and Marie are banned from talking about hip hop from now on. Rating: 4/4 Video: #2 Broadway Choreography: Andy Blankenbuehler Music: “New York, New York” by Bernstein, Comden, and Green Thoughts: OMG, I LOVED it so much! It reminded me so much of Gene Kelly’s movies, especially “On The Town” (OMG Nigel just mentioned that exactly). And this is the first time that I really notice Gev as much as Courtney. They were both amazing and totally in character. It was great. Rating: 4/4 Video: So who’s going to be in the bottom three? My guesses are Comfort Fedoke & Thayne Jasperson, Matt Dorame & Kourtni Lind, and Chelsie Hightower & Mark Kanemura, although I am only putting Chelsie and Mark as my choice because I liked the rest better. We’ll find out tomorrow night if I was right.
