Early Review: ABC Family’s THE SECRET LIFE OF THE AMERICAN TEENAGER “Falling In Love” (S01E01)

The Secret Life of the American Teenager

ABC Family’s new original series, THE SECRET LIFE OF THE AMERICAN TEENAGER, premieres tonight, July 1, at 8pm.

I was able to take an early look at the pilot and even though I have been known to get really excited about ABC Family’s shows ( like Kyle XY, Greek, and The Middleman), I didn’t find myself getting as excited about The Secret Life of the American Teenager. Don’t get me wrong, I think the show is pretty good and will appeal to a lot of the ABC Family audience, but I think this show is more in the vein of what you would think airs on ABC Family.

The Secret Life of the American Teenager is a family drama about issues that teens and parents face every day in America. In the first episode, the protagonist, Amy, finds out she’s pregnant and is afraid to tell her parents. To make matters worse, the father is Ricky, the “player” of the school. And now Amy is being courted by the sweet Ben, who clearly doesn’t realize what he’s getting into.

Overall, the pilot was quite enjoyable to watch, but I have a feeling that I am not the target audience for this show. However, I am willing to give it another shot, because I do see potential in the story and characters and am curious to see where it’s all going.

Don’t forget to tune in for the premiere of The Secret Life of the American Teenager tonight, July 1, at 8pm on ABC Family.
