Review: SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE “Top 16 Perform” June 26, 2008 Reviews, So You Think You Can Dance Sorry this review comes a little later than usual, but I have been sick for the last two days š Moving on, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE is down to 16 performers. Let’s see how they did: Kherington Payne & Twitch Boss – Hip Hop Choreography: Tabitha & Napoleon Music: “Don’t Touch Me” by Busta Rhymes Thoughts: I’ll start by saying that I thought both Twitch and Kherington did really good, but I have to admit that I wasn’t crazy about the choreography, which made it hard to enjoy. That said, Kherington held her own up there and we all know I’m a big fan of Twitch, so overall it was pretty good. Rating: 3/4 Video: Courtney Galiano & Gev Manoukian – Rumba Choreography: Tony Meredith & Melanie Music: “Wishing on a Star” by Rose Royce Thoughts: For some reason, I have not been feeling this couple since the beginning, and tonight was just ok for me. I think there isn’t enough emotion for me, it seems a little too fake, especially coming from Courtney. Rating: 2/4 Video: Comfort Fedoke & Chris Jarosz – Jazz Choreography: Tyce Diorio Music: “Beautiful People” by Marilyn Manson Thoughts: I know the judges didn’t like that one, but I honestly thought it was good. I really liked the choreography and the choice of song was pretty original. And I thought Comfort and Chris were pretty good. Rating: 3/4 Video: Jessica King & William Wingfield – Disco Choreography: Doriana Sanchez Music: “Heaven Must Have Sent You” by Bonnie Pointer Thoughts: First of all, I just think Will is fantastic. As for the routine, I thought it was pretty good. Jessica was pretty good and Will just made it look so easy. Rating: 3/4 Video: Matt Dorame & Kourtni Lind – Contemporary Choreography: Sonya Tayek Music: “Wrestlers” by Hot Chip Thoughts: This is another couple I am not feeling too much. Although I do like Matt, maybe with another partner I might like him even more. The performance was just ok for me, I don’t think people are really going to remember it. Rating: 2/4 Video: Chelsea Traille & Thayne Jasperson – Quick Step Choreography: Heather Smith Music: “You Can’t Hurry Love” by Phil Collins Thoughts: I really like the song, which is a good start, as for the performance, it was ok. Not too exciting for me. I have to agree with Nigel, these two might be in trouble this week. Rating: 2/4 Video: Chelsie Hightower & Mark Kanemura – Hip Hop Choreography: Napoleon & Tabitha Music: “Bleeding Love” by Leona Lewis Thoughts: I lost all respect for the judges here. I don’t know what Chelsie and Mark danced but that wasn’t Hip Hop. And I’m not talking about the choreography, because that was AWESOME, but Mark and Chelsie could not for the life of them dance it. What they did was contemporary on a Hip Hop routine and I don’t understand why the judges liked it so much. If it had been a ballroom dance, they would have teared them apart for doing that, but because it’s Hip Hop it feels they are just not as hard on them. Actually, I think they were harder on Jessica last week, who actually did a better job at actually dancing hip hop than these two. The fact is, if one of the Hip Hop dancers had danced this routine it would have looked totally different. Do I even need to remind you of Joshua and Katee’s Hip Hop routine during the first week, now they hit it. I really didn’t like this performance (and I usually like Mark), and the only reason they get a rating of 2/4 is because the choreography was so good. I really hope they do better next week. Rating: 2/4 Video: Katee Shean & Joshua Allen – Samba Choreography: Tony Meredith & Melanie Music: “Baila Baila” by Angela Via Thoughts: Finally, my favorite couple saves the day! Can these two do any wrong? I mean Joshua just has dancing in his blood. No matter what you throw at him, it just looks so natural, and mind you he is a hip hop dancer. These two rocked the night! The only routine I really got excited about. Rating: 4/4 Video: So who do I think is in trouble? Chelsea Traille & Thayne Jasperson, Matt Dorame & Kourtni Lind, and Comfort Fedoke & Chris Jarosz. We’ll find out if I’m right tonight.
