Review: TORCHWOOD “Fragments” (S2E12)

Torchwood - John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, Kai Owen as Rhys, Eve Myles as Gwen, Gareth David-Lloyd as Ianto and Burn Gorman as Owen

I have been meaning to write a review for last Saturday’s episode of TORCHWOOD, because not only was it really good, it is the second to last episode of the season, which sort of leads into the finale coming up this Saturday. I will have an early review of the season finale later this week, but for now, let’s talk about “Fragments.”

This episode of Torchwood was absolutely brilliant. I am still trying to get my mind around it. We learned so much in one episode about the whole Torchwood team, it gives you a new understanding of where they are coming from.

For me I think the Owen story was the best – although Tosh is a pretty close #2. I already liked him as a character to begin with, but now you add this new dimension because we found out about the death of his fiancee.

And then Tosh, OMG, who knew all of this happened to her. I knew she was smart, but man, I didn’t know she was that smart. Go Tosh!

What a treat this episode was.

The only bad thing I could find about the episode, and I’m not sure you could really call it a bad thing, but I wish they would have gotten more into Ianto’s background. We do see how he came to be with Torchwood Cardiff, but it doesn’t really show how he came into the Torchwood Institute itself. Probably something they could explore next season.

THE UGLY (Well, not really…)

There is nothing “Ugly” about Torchwood, or maybe I just love the show so much, I can’t find anything wrong about it.

In other news, I talked to Naoko Mori (who plays Tosh) last week and will have her interview up before Saturday, which should be a great prelude to the upcoming episode “Exit Wounds.”
