I Can’t Believe Who Died On THE WIRE

I just can’t believe it.

I just finished watching the last episode of THE WIRE on HBO and I was stunned to see one of my favorite character taken out of the game. I can always count on The Wire to bring twists and turns that always defy convention. But this was totally unexpected, especially for a character that has lasted for so many seasons and been such an impact to the fabric of The Wire.

If you haven’t seen the episode, please go away because I definitely do not want to spoil it for you.

For everyone who has seen the latest episode, please read further.

The Wire - Michael Kenneth Williams as Omar Little

Omar Little is dead. Even writing this seems unbelievable. I know that this was actually to be expected in the world of The Wire. Let us remember Stringer Bell, people. I guess I got suckered into a false sense of complacency where I was hoping for an ultimate showdown with Marlo Stanfield. Fortunately, the writers did not yield to my anticipation but instead, decided to keep it real.

The fact of the matter is a man like Omar is bound to end up dead. It is only our Hollywood driven routine which makes us want or even expect for good to prevail over evil (Although some might say that Omar was far from good). The beauty of The Wire is that it doesn’t fall into that easy trap of resolving everything neatly because, let’s face it, that is not how the world works.

Still, I’ll miss Omar. In his own way, he was the ultimate good guy of the show. He did what he thought was right and never backed away from his convictions. He dispensed his own brand of justice, but it was justice nevertheless.

Omar Little, you will be missed.
