Lipstick Jungle

NBC is getting ready to launch a new show, LIPSTICK JUNGLE, which is based on the best-selling book by Candace Bushnell (“Sex and the City”). The show follows three high-powered friends as they weather the ups and downs of their lives. Starring Brooke Shields as movie exec Wendy, who does everything she can to balance career and family, Kim Raver as Nico editor-in-chief of a hot fashion magazine, who has her eye on becoming CEO, and Lindsay Price as free-spirited designer Victory, who longs to make her dreams come true, and maybe find “Mr. Right” along the way.

I was able to take an early look at the first two episodes of Lipstick Jungle, and before I tell you what I thought of them, I just wanted to mention that this show has been compared to ABC’s Cashmere Mafia by many people. I do see the similarities, especially in the advertisements and I can bet that some people think they are the same show, which unfortunately is not a good sign for either show. However, after taking a look at both shows, I have to say that I enjoyed Lipstick Jungle better. Here is why:

First, I actually gave up on Cashmere Mafia after three episodes, not because it was bad, but I just sort of lost interest, especially since I have so many other shows to watch (like Doctor Who).

Second, Kim Raver is such a joy to watch. I have really enjoyed watching her performances ever since I first saw her on 24. And in Lipstick Jungle, she has the best storyline (which I will talk about further down).

LIPSTICK JUNGLE - Andrew McCarthy as Joe Bennett

Third, Andrew McCarthy is in it. “Pretty in Pink” anyone?

LIPSTICK JUNGLE - Paul Blackthorne as Shane Healy

Fourth, Paul Blackthorne is in it. Any of The Dresden Files fans out there? Plus he uses his original British accent.

LIPSTICK JUNGLE - Robert Buckley as Kirby Atwood

Fifth, Robert Buckley is in it. I don’t know him from anywhere, but who cares, he is in my favorites and sexiest scenes in the show.

Finally, as I mentioned above, I got really involved with the storyline involving Kim Raver’s character Nico and one of the three men I mentioned above (you’ll have to watch to find out which one, but I’ll tell you, those scenes are hot.)

So there you go. Here are my reasons for watching Lipstick Jungle.

I’m sure some of you are thinking, but wait what about the other stories? Well, the other stories are fine, but let’s just say that if it wasn’t for my six reasons above, I might not like Lipstick Jungle as much. Then again, these are just my reasons for liking the show, you might find something else that you like.

Lipstick Jungle premieres on February 7 at 10pm on NBC.
