GOSSIP GIRL Review: “Blair Waldorf Must Pie” – Happy Thanksgiving!

GOSSIP GIRL - Blake Lively as Serena van der Woodsen and Leighton Meester as Blair Waldorf in “Blair Waldorf Must Pie”

Welcome Upper East Siders to a new recap of The CW’s GOSSIP GIRL episode “Blair Waldorf Must Pie” (Season 1 Episode 9).

The episode is constructed in a way where we see what happened Thanksgiving a year ago and Thanksgiving this year. Needless to say Serena (Blake Lively) was pissed drunk last year and probably doesn’t remember a little fact like Dan (Penn Badgley) saving her life… Poor Dan.

Back to present day, Serena tells Blair (Leighton Meester) she saw her and Chuck (Ed Westwick) making out, which turns out they actually slept together, twice. Girl fight! Blair doesn’t take Serena criticizing her choice too well and uninvites Serena and her family from her Thanksgiving dinner.

Of course this leads to Dan “conveniently” inviting the whole van der Woodsen family to join his family for Christmas…hummm do I smell trouble?

Note: Serena’s brother, Eric (Connor Paolo), makes an appearance in this episode. I’m glad they didn’t just fade him out.

Last year: Blair’s father was still around before he left Blair’s mom because, turns out, he’s gay.

Blair finds out her mom told her dad that Blair didn’t want him to come. I didn’t think it was possible to hate her mom even more than I already did, turns out…

I am not sure I am buying the whole “Blair is bulimic” thing. Doesn’t the girl have enough drama in her life? Was it really necessary to add this on top? I’m just saying.

Cut to the Humphrey house – Awkward “meeting” between Lily (Kelly Rutherford) and Alison (Susan Misner)… do I hear some hissing?

Last Year: We get a look back at Nate (Chace Crawford) and Serena’s “connection.” How cute are these two?

Present Day: Nate is having a hell of a Thanksgiving. I almost want him and Serena to get together and spice things up a bit, like we really need that, right? But it would be fun. I am getting bored of the Dan and Serena relationship.

Nate’s dad ends up in the hospital after taking too many prescription drugs. For some reason, I don’t seem to really care about this storyline, I sort of felt like fast-forwarding the whole thing. I like Nate better with Serena or Jenny (Taylor Momsen) even.

Since things are a little tense in the Humphrey house, all the “kids” end up getting sandwiches for Thanksgiving after Lily and Rufus’ relationship gets exposed.

But all ends well, families reconciliate and live happily ever after… no wait that’s another story.

Finally what I would like to say is: WHERE IS CHUCK?

Final disclaimer, even though I criticize – where would the fun be if I couldn’t do that – Gossip Girl is one of the TV shows I look forward to the most. If I didn’t like it, then I probably wouldn’t even care enough to comment on what the characters do. I feel that when I show grabs me, that’s when I like to talk about it the most and be like “I cannot believe Serena did this, or that Blair said that.” You get the point. Until next week.

“You know you love me. XOXO”
