The 59th Primetime Emmy Awards: The Results are in…

The 59th Primetime Emmy Awards

As always, most of my picks didn’t win, but I’m starting to get used to it. I mostly watched it just to be able to write about it 😉 .

Family Guy at the Emmy Awards

I do have to mention the first number of the night by Family Guy‘s very own: Stewie and Brian. Now that was worth tuning in to. It was so inappropriate, I love it! And I cannot wait for Family Guy to start next Sunday.

Here is a list of some of the winners and some of my thoughts:

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
JEREMY PIVEN as Ari Gold – “Entourage”

I was rooting for Rainn Wilson or Neil Patrick Harris, so that didn’t work out for me. Since I don’t watch Entourage religiously, I wasn’t too excited about this award. I do agree that Jeremy Piven does a great job as Ari Gold, so it was deserving.

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
TERRY O’QUINN as John Locke – “Lost”

He was one of my two picks with Michael Emerson, so congratulations to Terry O’Quinn with a well-deserved Emmy win.

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES
JAIME PRESSLY as Joy Turner – “My Name Is Earl”

She was my second pick after Jenna Fischer, so I am happy Jaime Pressly won. I think she is hilarious as Joy and she is one of the reasons I love My Name Is Earl so much.

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A MINISERIES OR A MOVIE
THOMAS HADEN CHURCH as Tom Harte – “Broken Trail”

Since I hadn’t seen any of the nominee, except for Joe Mantegna, I really don’t feel either way about this award.

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
KATHERINE HEIGL as Isobel “Izzie” Stevens – “Grey’s Anatomy”

I called that one, but I didn’t expect it to come true. Yay for Katherine Heigl! Did you guys noticed the not so subtle cut away FOX slipped in. Well that was because Katherine Heigl mouthed the word “shit” when she won. Seriously, was it really necessary to cut away from her?

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR IN A MINISERIES OR A MOVIE
ROBERT DUVALL as Prentice “Print” Ritter – “Broken Trail”

Another Award I didn’t have any feelings either way. Congratulations Robert Duvall!

OUTSTANDING MINISERIES
BROKEN TRAIL – AMC

Since it seems that this miniseries won everything, I now have to add it to my Netflix queue…

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A MINISERIES OR A MOVIE
JUDY DAVIS as Joan McAllister – “The Starter Wife”

Judy Davis was fun in The Starter Wife, so why not?!

OUTSTANDING MADE FOR TELEVISION MOVIE
BURY MY HEART AT WOUNDED KNEE – HBO

As I mentioned in my previous Emmy post, I have added Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee to my Netflix queue, and it seems I was right.

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS IN A MINISERIES OR A MOVIE
HELEN MIRREN as Jane Tennison – “Prime Suspect: The Final Act (Masterpiece Theatre)”

Now I am also curious about this miniseries. More to add on my Netflix queue.

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
RICKY GERVAIS as Andy Millman – “Extras”

Ricky Gervais rocks!!! I admire what he does so much and he makes me laugh a lot. Brilliant!

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
SALLY FIELD as Nora Walker – “Brothers & Sisters”

Wow, I didn’t think Sally Field was going to win that one, but I love her in Brothers & Sisters, so I’m not complaining. Did anybody noticed that cut away FOX so obviously did in the middle of her speech? They censored what she said. It seems that soon we won’t be able to say anything on TV. Here is what was cut off: “And, let’s face it, if the mothers ruled the world, there would be no goddamned wars in the first place.” I love Sally Field.

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES
AMERICA FERRERA as Betty Suarez – “Ugly Betty”

I called that one too! Yay America Ferrera!

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
JAMES SPADER as Alan Shore – “Boston Legal”

Wow, I did not see that one coming. Honestly, I thought James Gandolfini was going to take that one, and I was rooting for Hugh Laurie, so really, I was way off base.

OUTSTANDING COMEDY SERIES
30 ROCK – NBC

Don’t watch this show, but I’ve heard so many good things about it and now this, I might have to rent the whole first season.

OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES
THE SOPRANOS – HBO

I knew it! I never got into The Sopranos, but I heard that the last season wasn’t that good. I honestly think they just gave it to them because it was their last season. I still think Heroes should have won.
