Interview: SHAUNA NOLAND from “So You Think You Can Dance” Top 14

Shauna Noland

Today, I was able to speak with Shauna Noland who was eliminated last night from the Top 14 on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. Here are some of things she had to say:

Daemon’s TV: Hi Shauna, Thanks for speaking with us.
Shauna Noland: Yeah, of course.

D: Did you think you were going to go home this week?
S: I don’t know, I mean I never really try to hold things for granted or anything.

D: Do you wish you had done something different in your routine?
S: No, I mean I feel like things happen for a reason, and I think that I tried everything I could, and that I made everything my all, not once did I hold back.

D: What has this experience brought you?
S: This experience has been amazing. Working with all the choreographers, and giving me a chance to share what I love to do with everyone was great.

D: Were there some people you felt closer to as far as the contestants go?
S: Not really, I mean I feel like everyone we’re kind of this huge big family, there’s not really any cliques or anything like that. It’s everyone is best friends with everyone so.

D: What advice would you give to someone who would like to try out for “So You Think You Can Dance” next season?
S: I would say stay true to yourself, because I feel that when there’s a camera around a lot of people, you know forget that, and so yeah definitely just stay true to yourself. Don’t take anything for granted.

D: Do you have any future projects?
S: Yeah, I mean I definitely want to just try continue dancing and auditioning, and I wanna start right away getting myself into acting and singing as well.

D: How do you get chemistry with someone you just met? I mean from Jimmy to Cedric, how do you guys get through that?
S: I mean, it’s definitely a hard thing to, you know all of a sudden be like “okay this is your dancing partner, make it work.” So it’s hard, but with both of my partner we tried to, we sat down and we talked to each other and got to know each other, and you know just got to know each other’s thoughts on different things to try and help.

D: Was it easier with one of them or was it the same for both?
S: I feel like it was really different, I mean both of the partners. The chemistry I had with both of them was so different. You know going into one thing with Jimmy, and we hadn’t really hung out before that, so that was really hard. Whereas me and Cedric got the chance to hang out for a couple of weeks before we were partnered together which was easier of course.

D: Is there a dance style you wish you would have gotten to perform?
S: Yeah, I really wish I had the chance to work with Wade, with Jazz.
D: Yeah, I’m sure everyone wish they had worked with Wade.
S: I know, right. (Laughs)

D: If you could go back 5 years in the past and learn another style of dance, which one would it be?
S: Probably all the ballroom stuff, ’cause I feel like right now that’s what I’m least trained in. Actually, I’m not trained in that at all so, (laughs) so probably latin and ballroom.

D: If you had a choice between technique or talent, what would you choose?
S: Technique or talent. Talent meaning like …?
D: It’s just innate, you can dance on anything, but you don’t have the technique.
S: Oooh, I don’t know, I mean, me personally or on someone else?
D: You personally.
S: I feel that to be a strong dancer you need to have a mixture of both. I don’t think someone that’s just all you know natural musicality and stuff like that, is gonna…I don’t know yeah… I don’t know if I’m making sense, what I want to say is not coming out, so yeah definitely I think a mix of both.

D: If you could be on any other reality show, which one would it be?
S: Oh, (laughs) I don’t know…I don’t know
D:A singing competition, maybe? “American Idol”?
S: Maybe “American Idol” yeah, why not. (laughs)

D: Finally, what would you like fans to tell you when they see you on the street?
S: My goal on the show was to get to share it and to inspire people to watch me, so I guess that I was an inspiration, maybe. (laughs)

D: Ok, well thank you for talking with us.
S: Yeah, thank you.
D: Good luck with everything.
S: Thank you very much.
