‘Supergirl’ (Season 2): Speculations

Lena and Lillian

In the last new episode of Supergirl – which aired on March 27 – viewers learned that Mon-El’s duplicitous mother Rhea (special guest star Teri Hatcher) not only put a hit out on Kara because she didn’t want Supergirl to be with her son but also killed her own husband because he allowed their son to remain on Earth with Kara rather than leave with his parents.

Needless to say, she is turning out to be a horrible, horrible person. But what will she do next? You know we haven’t seen the last of her yet, right?

It was obvious in that final scene of the March 27 episode that Rhea has plans for her son. But again, what will she do next?

How will she come at Mon-El – who I am going to guess she will view as a traitor now? Will she try to manipulate him into coming with her? Will she use some kind of alien technology to brainwash him? Or, will she attempt to go after Kara on her own to eliminate the reason her son has decided to stay on Earth?

If she does make that attempt, what do you think she will do to bring Supergirl down? We all know there is very little that can bring her down – except for Kryptonite – so will Rhea try to get her hands on that?

Given how duplicitous she has revealed herself to be it is almost assured that she will use ever means possible to take Supergirl down and retrieve her son at all costs.

Then there is Lena Luthor (recurring guest star Katie McGrath). Is she really a friend to Kara Danvers or is she playing a really long (and potentially evil) con? After all, she may have been adopted into the Luthor family, but she came to that family as a young girl. That is a long time to be affected by a very warped family. Especially given that in a flashback from a February episode it would seem that Lena was even smarter than her brilliant brother Lex. Is there more to Lena than meets the eye or could there be something even deeper going on?

And what about mommy dearest, Lillian Luthor (recurring guest star Brenda Strong). I’m pretty sure we haven’t seen the last of her either; and given that Supergirl stopped Cadmus from forcibly deporting all those aliens to another planet in that large spaceship not to mention forcing her Earth father Jeremiah into working for Cadmus…well, there is no love lost between either of these powerful women. But it comes down to what is Lillian going to do next? How will she come at Supergirl and all of the aliens on Earth the next time?

What are your thoughts on the female villains in the ‘Supergirl’ world? Which of them (not just the ones listed above) do you think is the most evil? Which of them do you think Supergirl will have to go up against next? Please share your thoughts below.

The next new episode of the second season of ‘Supergirl’ will air on The CW on Monday, April 24 at 8/7c.
