Wonder Con 2017 Report: The Bucket List and More of the Riverdale Cast

Riverdale

Over two weeks ago at Wonder Con 2017, most of the cast of the new CW series Riverdale – K.J. Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Ashleigh Murray, Luke Perry, Madchen Amick and Marisol Nichols – took to the stage at the Anaheim Convention Center along with executive producers Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Sarah Schechter and Jon Goldwater to talk about the small screen adaptation of the Archie Comics.

Key among the discussion was what each of the cast members has on their bucket list for their characters:

• Luke (Fred Andrews): He wants Fred (and his work crew) to get the construction equipment on site, given how much his character’s business hinges on getting that site up and running;

• Madchen (Alice Cooper): She wants to see Alice have a “wild, fun night out; she needs to unwind; maybe even do the walk of shame;”

• Marisol (Hermione Lodge): She wants Hermione to “have it out” with her incarcerated husband Hiram;

• Ashleigh (Josie McCoy): She wants to Josie “get a boyfriend, or even a girlfriend; she wants to see someone “shake her world up;”

• Cole (Jughead Jones): He wants Jughead to simply “get a house;” [and in a separate discussion he shared that he would like actress Eva Green to play his mother];

• Camila (Veronica Lodge): She really wants to meet Veronica’s dad [and she shared that she would love for actor Andy Garcia to play Hiram];

• Lili (Betty Cooper): She would really like to see “dark Betty again;” she thinks “we need to see the dark side of Betty a bit more;”

• K.J. (Archie Andrews): He would like Archie to “settle down in a relationship” and that Archie needs to “work on his relationship with Jughead.”

Among the other items discussed by the cast and creative minds included:

According to Roberto, most of the debut season of the show was filmed before the show even aired, but the executive producers are aware of what the fans have been responding to since the show’s debut;

When asked about singing in her role as Josie McCoy, Ashleigh shared that “if I could sing instead of talk I would;”

Cole shared that “I survived a Disney career without having to sing” so he won’t be singing in the show;

Roberto shared that Riverdale had actually been in the development process for three years before getting on the air and it was planned early on to have the love triangle between Archie and Betty and Jughead;

As viewers are aware, actress Molly Ringwald will be appearing as Archie’s mom Mary. K.J. shared that he is “the luckiest guy in the world” to have Luke Perry as his TV dad and Molly as his TV mom. Luke also chimed in saying at first he wasn’t sure about Molly playing Mary, but “two minutes into filming and I was sold.”

When the discussion turned to other parents showing up on the show, especially Jughead’s mom and Veronica’s dad, the executive producers shared that “one or more of these parents will be introduced.”

Out of the cast, Ashleigh was the most vocal about being a big fan of the Archie Comics sharing that she “has a large collection (of the comics) of her own”; while Cole stated it’s an inescapable property (not to know about). But it was Lili who admitted she “didn’t know who Archie was” and thought, since it was a comic book, that Archie must be superhero.

The next new episode of the debut season of ‘Riverdale’ will air on The CW on Thursday, April 13 at 9/8c.
