Jane the Virgin (Season 3): Otherwise Known as Jane the Meddler

Chapter Fifty-Two

Fans of The CW dramedy Jane the Virgin have been waiting for a couple months now to get a new episode of the show, to be more specific, the next chapter in the soap-opera-laced story of Jane Gloriana Villanueva.

By now we all know Jane’s story ad nauseam: she was accidentally artificially inseminated by her gynecologist who just happened to be the sister of her teenage crush, who ended up being the baby daddy and eventually her short-term boyfriend until she realized that she was really and truly in love with her police officer former boyfriend to whom she is now happily married (and no longer a virgin).

Phew, that’s a mouthful! And that doesn’t include all the other soap opera heavy storylines that surround Jane and her family, but that’s a discussion for another time.

While Jane is no longer a virgin, she is now going to be known as “Jane the Meddler” – whether she intended to be just that or not. It was clear that while she has been doing her best to stay out of her mother’s tumultuous relationship with her off-again, on-again flame Bruce and her cousin Catalina’s relationship with baby daddy Rafael [and the surprise reveal that Catalina is married to an older, titled man who seemed to be her sugar daddy], Jane just can’t help herself: she meddles for good, bad or otherwise.

Truth be told, I’m surprised that she isn’t meddling more into the unconventional pairing of her father Rogelio with soon-to-be baby momma (and love dealer, not matchmaker) Darci Factor. That title is actually being held by Jane’s mom Xiomara, but give it time. I’m pretty sure that Jane will start sticking her nose into that whole situation soon enough.

On top of that, Jane has been more than supportive to her husband as he attempted to find his footing after abruptly quitting his job as a cop because of the desk duty for which he was forced to comply with due to failing his recertification after his nearly being killed. From Michael thinking he could be a car salesman to a stand-up comedian, Jane stood by her man. Thankfully, her hubby made a wise decision to turn toward the law. No meddling was needed for this situation although Jane did keep hoping that Michael wouldn’t put himself back in harm’s way. Funny how things work out, huh?

The true test will be how much more Jane meddles into Catalina’s relationship with Rafael especially given that she saw Catalina getting into an expensive automobile with supposed soon-to-be-ex-husband Arnaud; and Jane’s continued doubts about said cousin’s true intentions. Oh, and then there is still her distain for Xo’s paramour Bruce. Do you think that Jane can keep her opinions to herself and not meddle into her mother’s life?

What do you think is really going to with Catalina? Can she be trusted? Why do you think Rafael is still allowing Catalina a place in his life when he even admitted to Jane that he is unsure about her? Please share your thoughts on Jane the Meddler below.

The next new episode of the third season of ‘Jane the Virgin’ will air on The CW on Monday, January 31 at 9/8c.
