Hallmark Channel has announced the premiere date for their newest original series, When Calls the Heart. Inspired by Janette Oke’s bestselling book series about the Canadian West, When Calls the Heart premieres Sunday, January 12th at 8pm ET/PT. The project is based on the ratings winning two-hour backdoor pilot of the same name that aired on October 18th.
The series will follow young teacher Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow) whose first assignment takes the upper class lady to a small coal-mining town. Elizabeth arrives in town shortly after an explosion takes the lives of many of the town’s men leaving widows and fatherless children in its wake. In order to keep the town going, the women must take their husbands’ places in the mines. Meanwhile Elizabeth will be tasked with guiding their children while under the watchful eyes of Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing), who was hired by Elizabeth’s father to watch out for her– a role he isn’t happy to have. Lori Loughlin (Full House) also stars.
“We’re all living in very challenging, cynical times and we believe the audience is ready for a family series about a very special community pulling together to overcome their hardships,” said Michael Landon Jr. in a statement. “We’re thrilled that Hallmark Channel has given us this opportunity to do such a positive, life-affirming series.”
Once again, When Calls the Heart premieres Sunday, January 12th at 8pm ET/PT on Hallmark Channel.
