Covert Affairs Season 4 Review “Dig for Fire” – Annie and Auggie See Their (Possible) Future July 23, 2013 Covert Affairs, Reviews In this episode of Covert Affairs, called “Dig for Fire,” Annie and Aggie get a glimpse into a possible future as Arthur and Joan go through difficulties in their relationship, while everyone is still on the hunt for the mole. Since Annie is a spy, I’ve gotten pretty used to her playing both sides of one game – fooling one person into thinking she’s working for them, while really working for someone else and sometimes lying to both. But now that Auggie and Annie are together, he is getting dragged into that part of her world and it almost took me aback. I sort of felt like Auggie said he did at one point during the episode – I’ve seen Annie play the game many times, but now that Auggie is involved it feels more real and more threatening. The show did a great job at fooling me completely with the whole affair thing. Of course I didn’t want to believe that Arthur would do something like that, but when a man admits to sleeping with another woman on national TV, you have a tendency to believe him. So when it turned out that he made it all up so as to keep Joan out of the loop and therefore able to pass a polygraph, I didn’t expect it at all. Watching them go through that drama did make me wonder if Annie and Auggie’s relationship would end up like that someday. Not that I expect Auggie to cheat on Annie, but Arthur and Joan are an example of a spy couple who’ve been together for many years and now we are seeing that the secrets and lies from the job have followed them home. I like to think that Annie and Auggie are different though. Besides, they’ve also now had a chance to see what it could look like if they allowed their jobs to overtake their entire lives, so maybe they’ll fight that much harder not to see it happen. Though, now that Annie is still playing Henry Wilcox and has basically agreed to kill Teo (not that she will, of course) to stay on his good side, it looks like things are going to keep on getting more and more complicated for everyone. My favorite bits.. “Since when did you start carrying on US soil?” “Since the last time someone broke into my kitchen.” “Our fish has taken the bait.” Auggie saying that he swore phone companies kept pay phones around for spies. Sounds about right. Auggie comparing a wire tap to riding a bike. “Do you got wire cutters?” “No, but I got teeth.” “Look at the big brain on you.” Annie pointing out to Arthur that he had underestimated them all. Henry telling Auggie to sack up. Whoa. “We’re not them.” About time. I was wondering when we’d see Joan with morning sickness. Poor Annie. Now she’s stuck between lying to Joan for Arthur and to Arthur for Joan. Seth is the mole? I didn’t see that one coming. “What do you think she’s going to do? Sleep with him for payback?” Nearly passing out when Annie caught the bookend and then nearly passing out again when Seth broke through the closet door to attack her. Seriously starting to wonder when the fight was every going to end… right about the time Annie ended up dragging Seth down the street with her car. The way they shot Seth hitting the water. It really communicated how heavy the impact was. “Stop spinning and start talking.” “Are you gonna be sick?” “I don’t know, I’ll figure it out once I get there.” Auggie putting the bandage on Annie’s forehead. Too cute. What did you think of this episode of Covert Affairs? Got any favorite bits or least favorite bits of your own? I’d love to hear from you!
