Two Actresses Promoted to Full Time Status on ‘The Americans’

As we reported back in February here the cable network FX renewed the new period piece drama The Americans for a second season.

Now word has come down thanks to the folks over at The Hollywood Reporter that two of the show’s recurring cast members have been recently promoted to series regulars.

Actresses Annet Mahendru and Alison Wright will appear as full-time “players” on the Cold War-themed drama when it returns to the cable network for its second season in 2014. According to the report, this decision “comes as little surprise given how much screen time” both actresses have had during the show’s debut season. Wright appeared in 10 of the 13 episodes while Mahendru appeared in all episodes except the pilot.

Series executive producers Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields had this to say about the promotions, “Annet Mahendru has been a revelation as Nina, bringing the character to life with a rich and subtle depth that keeps you guessing as to what’s really percolating under the surface. And Alison Wright’s portrayal of Martha is heartbreakingly real at every turn. We are thrilled to add them to our outstanding company of actors”.

Again, ‘The Americans’ will be back for a 13-episode second season on FX sometime in 2014.
