‘Major Crimes’ Adds Nadine Velazquez To Cast, Promotes Another

According to a report at Deadline, actress Nadine Velazquez, best known for her role on the popular comedy ‘My Name Is Earl’, has been added to the cast of the TNT crime drama Major Crimes, which as most TV viewers know, is the spin-off series of the long-running TNT series ‘The Closer’.

Velazquez will play Deputy D.A. Emma Rios, who has been newly assigned to the Phillip Stroh case [the very last case handled by Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick)]. Rios will “interview Rusty (series regular Graham Patrick Martin) about his involvement as a key witness in the murder case”. Obviously, she creates “a stir” within the department, conflicting with Captain Raydor (series lead Mary McDonnell) [who took over the reins in the spin-off] “when Emma questions Raydor’s intentions as Rusty’s guardian”.

‘Major Crimes’ focuses on Captain Raydor, who is selected as the new head of the Major Crimes Division after Deputy Chief Johnson leaves the division. Throughout the course of the first season she faced the challenge of earning the trust and loyalty of her officers, most of who worked with Johnson and are still in shock over Johnson’s exit, while trying to close the department’s highest-profile cases.

Since her days on the NBC comedy, Velazquez has appeared in episodes of ‘Hart of Dixie’ and ‘The League’ as well as her box office roles in ‘Snitch’ and ‘Flight’.

Additionally, actor Robert Gossett, who plays Assistant Chief Russell Taylor, has been promoted to full-time status after being a recurring character in the new drama’s first season. He joins recurring guest star Jonathan del Arco, who was also recently promoted to series regular.

‘Major Crimes’ will be back for its second season on TNT starting on Monday, June 10 at 10/9c.
