Supernatural Chat: Let’s Talk Spoilers, Running AMOK and the Supernatural Shake

Supernatural season 8 - Goodbye Stranger

Hey there Supernatural fans! You’d think that with our beloved show being off the air for another mini hiatus that there wouldn’t be a whole lot to talk about. But with season 8 winding down (*sad face*) and various members of the cast and crew taking part in high jinks; there is still plenty to discuss.

Spoilers About a New Angel: Meet Metatron

Last season we heard about this angel, but we haven’t met him yet. His name is Metatron, aka the Scribe of God and according to SpoilerTV, we are going to meet him in episode 8.21 and he’ll be sticking around through 8.22 and 8.23. They also report that Metatron may be around for more appearances in season 9.

Metatron is described as an aged angel who has been around since the time of Adam and Eve and is apparently a cross between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Virgil/Keyser Soze.

Considering that Metatron is the guy who wrote the very tablets that Kevin has been translating so that Sam and Dean can close the Gates of Hell, I’m guessing that Sam is going to make it through his trials and we may actually end up seeing the Winchesters standing at those very gates. But if Metatron is this old, could it be that he’ll also have something to do with Noami and the control she has over Heaven and over Castiel? When they tell us a character is going to be around for that long, we know he’s going to be very important, so now we just have to wait and see how he’ll affect the storyline.

Spoilers About….Sacrificing Castiel???

I know what y’all are thinking after reading that headline and yes, I am fully aware that Misha Collins has been signed on as a season regular for next year. But in a recent article from Zap2it, Jared Padalecki spoke about how far the Winchesters might be willing to go to save the world – including apparently sacrificing a friend if they had to.

When asked if he thought the Winchesters would be willing to destroy the angel tablet and thereby banish Castiel for good, Jared said, “I absolutely think the boys would sacrifice Castiel to get rid of the angels. I think they are, not one-track minded, but goal-oriented enough to where you’ve seen them sacrifice themselves or others to try and accomplish a bigger objective … I feel like they would do it. I could be wrong, but I feel like they would do it.”

Okay so first off, you see that he never used the word “kill” to describe what they might do. So what if that means that by destroying the angel tablet, what they do is cause Cas to be stuck here on earth bereft of his powers? Most angels stay up in Heaven so perhaps the destruction of the tablet would simply close their means of getting on and off the planet. It sounds like the Gates of Hell thing doesn’t it? They’ve never said that closing the gates would destroy hell or even kill all the demons; it would just trap them there. So what about the angels? Why couldn’t it trap any that are left here on earth and also make them powerless?

Sounds to me like that could be a strong possibility, especially since many agree that having Castiel part of the gang is complicated due to his immense power. With him around the Winchesters can defeat anything, which takes away from some of the fun on the show. This could be the perfect solution.

Running AMOK with Misha

After all the seriousness above, let’s talk about something more fun, shall we? Zap2it spoke with Misha Collins about breaking the Guinness World Record for organizing the world’s largest scavenger hunt for the second year in row. The hunt, known as GISHWISHES (which stands for the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt The World Has Ever Seen) was a huge hit with fans last year and I even had a friends who took part in it.

The whole thing is done for fun, but also in the spirit of Misha’s other charity work and some of the scavenger hunt items are even meant to help others, such as one item that asks that players put on a bedside puppet show performance for a child in a hospital.

GISHWISHES isn’t the only way that Misha asks fans to help out; he also has a charitable organization called Random Acts that encourages people to perform random, unexpected acts of kindness. On March 10, Misha again asked everyone to be a part of AMOK, the Annual Melee of Kindness.

“It’s a day when we encourage everybody to get out and get involved and maybe find a group of people and do an act of kindness,” Misha said of the event.

Misha will also be heading back to Haiti this year with a team of friends and Supernatural fans for a third trip to help people there.

“We’re repeating the same formula again this year,” he said. “We actually have built a very large, 12000 square foot orphanage down there that is really spectacular. Not to brag, but we are pretty awesome. I could not be more proud of it. It has so far exceeded my expectations. It’s going to house a couple hundred kids, so this trip when we go back will be the Christening of that building. We’re going to be there just as they’re putting the finishing touches on it.”

Talk about a real-life angel. If any of you guys want to get involved with any of Misha’s charitable organizations or head down to Haiti with him and his crew to help out down there, you can visit therandomact.org and find out more info.

The Supernatural Shake

And finally, let’s end this installment of Supernatural Chat with the funniest Supernatural video to hit Youtube since the season 8 blooper reel. With the massive popularity of the Harlem Shake videos, the team over at our favorite show decided to make one of their own. It features Jensen shaking his thing while Jared checks his phone, before the entire crew and a few other special guests go completely nuts.

We may have to wait another week for a new episode, but in the meantime let’s enjoy the Supernatural Shake.

What did you think of the Supernatural season 8 spoilers above? Do you think Sam and Dean will actually have to make a choice and sacrifice Castiel for the good of the planet? How do you think Metatron will affect the story?

Actually in episode 8.01 Kevin did indeed say that closing the gates from hell WOULD banish all the demons from the face of the Earth.

Ah, I must have misheard that. Interesting though as I seem to recall hearing an interview with one of the EP’s about how that may not necessarily be the case. Darn, wish I could remember where that was. Thanks for the info though! :o )

I thought I heard the same thing, Star. In one of my groups we were talking about this and the question was asked where would all the bad souls go and why would people be good if they knew there was no consequences for a doomed soul. But closing the gates of hell may only work to keep souls in and may still admit new souls. They just can’t get out. As for what would keep people from misbehaving they do that now and still claimed to believe in God, Heaven/Hell and anyway who is to say that eveyone would know the gates of hell are closed? Only a few hunters know this, the rest of humanity is in the dark about all of this supernatural business.

Why would they want to close the gates of heaven? Yeah the Angels are dicks but ultimately they aren’t evil, the evil ones are dead or trapped in The Cage. All closing heaven would do is deny an afterlife to humanity, and that would just be completely foolish.
