It was enough for fans to contend with the loss of Lady Sybil (actress Jessica Brown Findlay) and fan-favorite Matthew Crawley (actor Dan Stevens) during the much anticipated third season of the international hit mini-series Downton Abbey.
Now news comes from the folks at Entertainment Tonight Online of another departure to unsettle the upcoming fourth season of the hit, albeit a departure that might not hurt the fans quite as much as the loss of Sybil and Matthew.
Who is leaving, you ask?
None other than actress Siobhan Finneran who plays Miss O’Brien, the duplicitous maid to Cora Crawley, the Countess of Grantham (actress Elizabeth McGovern) herself. The actress had the following to share, “I’m not doing (O’Brien) any more…she is a thoroughly despicable human being — that was great to play”.
But unlike the [SPOILER ALERT! if you are still not caught up on the third season of 'Downton Abbey' - tread lightly!] tragic deaths of Sybil and Matthew, O’Brien will simply be leaving the employ of the Crawley family. But let’s allow series creator Julian Fellowes to explain, “When an actor playing a servant wants to leave, there isn’t really a problem — [that character simply gets] another job”. So it would seem that Miss O’Brien will be out and fans can, at this point, only surmise that someone new will take her place.
The fourth season of ‘Downton Abbey’ is currently filming in England and should air in the UK later this year with airings to happen here in the States sometime in 2014.
