Hawaii Five-0 Season 3 Review “Olelo Ho’opa’i Make (Death Sentence)” – Riots, Rescues and Other Bad Assery

Hawaii Five-0 Season 3 Episode 13 Olelo Ho'opa'i Make (Death Sentence)

In this episode of Hawaii Five-0, called “Olelo Ho’opa’i Make” (Hawaiian for Death Sentence), Chin finds himself in a very scary situation and the entire team comes to his rescue, along with help from a surprising source.

Talk about one great episode. By starting out with Danny and Steve chasing down Delano’s brother to ask where Chin was, it felt like this one was constantly in action, even in those few moments when things were relaxed and quiet. We’ve been wondering when things with Chin were going to come to a head, and boy did we get our answer tonight. I knew that he couldn’t just get over his wife dying and then killing the man responsible without some repercussions. Having the man’s brother kidnap you and throw you in jail with a man you put there is about as bad as it gets.

The use of the Hendrix music was the perfect soundtrack for everything that happened, too. The music added some extra grittiness that went nicely with a story that included a prison riot, a helicopter rescue and other general bad assery. The team dynamic was spot-on, too, with everyone having just the right amount to do with in the story. As for the ending, I think it’s great that Chin is apparently moving on (if his interest in Leilani is any indication), but I do have to wonder if it isn’t just a wee bit early for him to be with another woman. That said, I’m finding myself already liking Leilani so I guess we’ll just see where this goes. Overall, I have to say that this was yet another spectacular episode of this show.

My favorite bits..

Whoa, way to mix us up, starting everything out of order.

Chin waking up handcuffed to his bed. I could make a really inappropriate joke right now, but I’m going to save it for another time.

Danny deciding he was out as soon as he heard that the burritos had Spam in them.

The look on Steve’s face when he ate the burrito. Oh man, you know something’s bad when Steve can’t handle it.

Chin waking up in prison. He’s having the worst luck waking up, isn’t he?

Not trusting the guard as soon as he said it was a “shortcut.”

The team finally realizing that Chin wasn’t on vacation. Whew!

Continuing to rock out every time they used another Hendrix song. Perfect music for this episode.

Chin’s hopes of escape disappearing as their little fire turned into a full-on riot. Oops.

Feeling as shocked as Sang Min looked when Kaleo stabbed Chin. I really thought something would happen to prevent Chin from getting seriously injured. Oh boy.

Helicopter rescue to a rocking Hendrix tune = Awesome. I mean seriously, that scene was beyond hot.

The fact that Chin got to take out Kaleo before his rescue arrived, and that he then made them go in search of Leilani and Sang Min before he would leave.

Nooooo! Not the mullet! I think we must all bow our heads for the loss. Though, that being said, Sang Min does look better without it.

Poor Chin being subjected to one of Kamekona’s breakfast burritos. Doesn’t the hospital have rules against torture like that? Poor Chin.

Not missing the way Chin sat up when Leilani came into the room.

Leilani giving Chin a nail file. Ha!

Kono cloning Adam’s phone just in the nick of time.
