Back in October, we reported here that actress Jennifer Esposito went on leave (or was “put on leave” by the network according to the actress) from Blue Bloods due to her struggles with Celiac Disease.
Now, according to a report at TV Line, Esposito’s leave of absence is going to be a permanent one. Let’s make that clear: Esposito is “not expected to reprise her role as Det. Jackie Curatola this season, next season or ever”.
Ouch!, right?! It would seem that this is a matter of the network sticking to their guns on their decision to “put her on leave” and Esposito being upset that she was being kept from doing her job on the show even with the limited part-time schedule for which she was put under by her physician.
In the meantime, ‘Blue Bloods” has been rotating new characters – portrayed by actresses Megan Ketch and Megan Boone – to substitute for Esposito; but now that the “axe” has been dropped, there is no official word if her character will be recast or eliminated from the show altogether.
The remainder of the season of the popular Friday night police drama that, simply put, revolves around a family of New York cops will certainly be interesting and fans will have to get accustomed to Esposito’s absence.
The next new episode of ‘Blue Bloods’, which is now in its third season on CBS, will air this Friday, January 11 at 10/9c.
