According to a report by Deadline late last week, the long-running comedy How I Met Your Mother will be back for a 9th and presumably final season.
While there for awhile it looked like the show might not be back; namely due to cast deals that were finalized nearly at the 11th hour, fans of the sitcom can be happy that the series will be back for another season next fall.
As it stands, this was the last year of the show’s current license deal with CBS and the contracts with the creative talent behind the show – Craig Thomas and Carter Bays – as well as the talent, including Josh Radnor, Cobie Smolders, Neil Patrick Harris, Alyson Hannigan and Jason Segal were also coming to a close at the end of this current season. As the final hours of negotiations came to a close, it was the contract with Segal that was most in jeopardy as the actor, who now has a thriving film career, seemed dead set on leaving the cast. The show “was literally dead” until the last second with Segal signing on for one more season.
‘How I Met Your Mother’ is expected to return with more new episodes from its current 8th season on CBS on January 14 at 8/7c.
