Exclusive Interview: Last Man Standing’s Kaitlyn Dever Discusses Eve Baxter’s High School Days December 19, 2012 Featured, Interviews, Last Man Standing Kaitlyn Dever has had an eventful second season on ABC’s Last Man Standing. If you want to see what’s been happening with her and her character Eve, read TV Equals‘ conversation with Dever below. Last Man Standing airs each Friday at 8/7c. Last Man Standing is going strong in its second season. How’s it been for you to work on this second season? Kaitlyn Dever: It’s been really great. It’s definitely been a lot of new changes to the characters, my character especially. My character’s a little more girly this season, she’s going into high school, she starts to like boys. My character’s a lot different from season one. She’s just really changed a lot and it’s been a lot of fun. In an upcoming episode, she’s going to be joining the junior ROTC at her school and she’s gets to play Annie Oakley in a show at her dad’s work, Outdoor Man, so it was a lot of fun. Season 2’s been great. It’s been really fun. What was it like working with the cast this season, particularly since there’s been a casting shake-up? Kaitlyn Dever: Yeah, it’s been great. Everyone’s been awesome and they feel like my family, my second family. Tim [Allen] is great, Nancy [Travis] is great, my two older sisters [on the show] are just awesome and it’s all working out. It’s awesome. This show is one that everyone can watch with their family, and that is probably one of the biggest reasons for its popularity, but why do you think it’s been so popular? Kaitlyn Dever: You know, it’s a great, enjoyable, family sitcom. I think why it’s caught on so well is that there’s not a lot of family friendly TV sitcoms on nowadays. So I think that’s mainly why it’s caught on. And it’s Tim Allen and he’s back on TV and I think everyone’s excited to see him and it’s a great, great show. I even watch it with my family on Friday nights, too, so I think that’s why it’s really caught on. Do you have any characteristics that are similar to your character Eve? Kaitlyn Dever: Yeah. We’re both…sarcastic–I’m always making sarcastic remarks against my sisters on the show, and…I’m always making fun of my little sisters, too. I think that’s how we relate, how we’re so sarcastic. I have such a dry sense of humor in real life and on the show, so I think that’s one of our similarities. What can fans expect from Eve in upcoming episodes? Kaitlyn Dever: In an upcoming episode she joins the junior ROTC in her high school, which is really fun and her parents get freaked out because she wants to join the army…and then, she plays Annie Oakley in an upcoming episode where she gets to…have a southern accent…and then, she gets in trouble at school for using hate speech against another guy on a basketball team, so a lot of interesting new stories. Completely different stories, too, so it’s going to be a lot of fun. Cool. Is there anything you’d like to say to fans of the show? Kaitlyn Dever: Just watch every Friday, there are going to be a lot of cool episodes coming up. If you could guest star on any show, which one would it be? Kaitlyn Dever: It would probably be Mad Men or something like that. I’ve never actually watched the show, but I’ve heard it’s centered around the ’60s and old times and I love doing period pieces. I did Cinema Verite a while back, where it was set in the ’70s and it was a lot of fun because I got to do all these really cool wardrobe changes and it was a lot of fun. So Mad Men would probably be a cool guest star role to do.
