FX Sets Premiere Date for New Drama ‘The Americans’

The Americans - Russell:Rhys

There has been a lot of buzz lately about the upcoming new drama The Americans over on FX and now viewers won’t have to wait very long to learn more about one of the most anticipated mid-season shows as the cabler has given it a premiere: Wednesday, January 30

‘The Americans’ is a period drama set in the 1980’s shortly after Ronald Reagan is elected President of the United States, focusing on the complex marriage of two KBG spies – to be played by Welsh actor Matthew Rhys (‘Brothers & Sisters’) and American actress Keri Russell (‘Felicity’) – posing as Americans in suburban Washington D.C.

Rhys and Russell will portray Philip and Elizabeth Jennings, who are in an arranged marriage that grows more passionate and genuine by the day, but is constantly tested by the escalation of the Cold War and the intimate, dangerous and darkly funny relationships they must maintain with a network of spies and informants under their control.

It is said their lives will get more complicated because Philip is really taking to American life; but then the arrival of Stan Beeman (to be played by Noah Emmerich from ‘White Collar’), a new neighbor who is actually an FBI agent tracking foreign agents in the U.S. – that includes Russian spies masquerading as Americans – will make their lives even more difficult.

Again, the series premiere of ‘The Americans’ will air on FX on Wednesday, January 30 at 10/9c.
