Bryan Fuller, the man behind shows like ‘Wonderfalls’, ‘Dead Like Me’ and the critically acclaimed ‘Pushing Daisies’, is bringing legendary killer Hannibal Lechter to the small screen early next year in the form of the NBC thriller Hannibal.
As we reported here Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen (‘Casino Royale’) will be portraying the sadistic genius while British actor Hugh Dancy (‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’) will play Special Agent Will Graham.
Now news comes from Entertainment Weekly that British actor-comedian Eddie Izzard (‘The Riches’ and ‘Mockingbird Lane’, Fuller’s failed reboot of the classic ‘Munsters’ TV series) will be making a guest appearance in ‘Hannibal’.
The details that are known about the character for which Izzard will be playing is that he is an inmate at the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane (which is the very same facility where Lechter is eventually incarcerated, by the way); and that he claims to be “the infamous Chesapeake Ripper”.
Among Izzard’s film credits are ‘Across the Universe’, ‘Ocean’s Twelve’, ‘Ocean’s Thirteen’ and ‘Valkyrie’. He also appeared in the TV series ‘United States of Tara’ and the made-for-TV movie ‘Treasure Island’.
An official airdate for ‘Hannibal’ has yet to be announced by NBC, but is expected to debut mid-season, which means sometime in early 2013.
