It was announced yesterday that ABC has given a full season order to its new drama Nashville, making it the first new drama at the network to be picked up. The network has already given a full season order to last season’s mid-season series Scandal as we reported here.
‘Nashville’ stars Connie Britton (‘Friday Night Lights’) as Rayna James, a legendary country music superstar, whose star begins fading. Her producers offer her a joint tour with up-and-comer Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere from ‘Heroes’), the young and sexy future of country music. But both singers are pursuing their own goals. Juliette wants to take the place of Rayna while Rayna knows she has to make some changes in order to save her career.
The cast also includes relative newcomer Clare Bowen, Charles Esten (‘Big Love’), Eric Close (‘Without a Trace’), Jonathan Jackson (‘General Hospital’), Sam Palladio (‘Episodes’), Robert Ray Wisdom (‘Prison Break’) and legendary actor Powers Boothe.
The music-based series has been averaging 6.8 million viewers since its debut, but has been No. 1 in its time slot among the coveted 18- to 49-year old adults. It also leads in its time slot across all women demographics, ranking among the top 3 new TV series in adults 18 to 49 and adults 18 to 34.
The series was created by Callie Khouri, who wrote the box office hit ‘Thelma & Louise’; and she serves as executive producer along with Dee Johnson, R.J. Cutler and Steve Buchanan. The series is produced by Lionsgate, ABC Studios and Gaylord Entertainment.
‘Nashville’ will air its next new episode of its debut season on ABC tomorrow, November 14 at 10/9c.
