We finally have a proper trailer for the next installment of American Horror Story and a clearer view of what lies ahead for us within the walls of the Briarcliff Asylum. This season the themes of sin, karma and retribution will reign supreme. Or as one patient whispers to Sister Jude (Jessica Lange), “What you put out into the world comes back to you.”
If that’s true, Sister Jude had better watch her back. In the trailer, she’s violent, judgmental and downright sadistic. Given how handily evil triumphed last season, it’s entirely possible Sister Jude will get away with the dark secrets she is keeping, but at the very least the intrepid reporter Lana (Sarah Paulson) is determined to dig up dirt on the good sister and discover why people enter Briarcliff, but never leave.
The trailer also gives us a better idea of what Adam Levine will be up to. While the majority of the season will take place in the past, Levine’s photographer character Leo is enjoying a “haunted honeymoon tour” with his new wife in the present. Their last stop is Briarcliff and given how quickly they get busy in the asylum, the duo might not be long for this world.
Other unnerving tidbits include Kit (Evan Peters) strapped to an operating table, Dr. Thredson (Zachary Quinto) investigating the asylum’s conditions and Monsignor Timothy Howard (Joseph Fiennes) behaving in a decidedly unpriestly manner. You can watch the trailer in all of its horrifying glory below.
American Horror Story: Asylum premieres Wednesday, October 17 at 10:00 p.m. on FX.
