The Carlina White Story (Lifetime)

Tonight’s TV movie Abducted: The Carlina White Story premieres Saturday October 6 (8/7c) on Lifetime and stars stars Aunjanue Ellis, Keke Palmer & Sherri Shepherd.

Abducted: The Carlina White Story Synopsis: In August of 1987, new parents Joy White and Carl Tyson took their 19-day old daughter Carlina to Harlem Hospital in New York with a high fever. Ann Pettway, who had suffered a series of miscarriages and was desperate for a child of her own, posed as a hospital nurse and befriended Carlina’s parents, even offering to watch over their daughter.

But shortly after Carlina was admitted, Pettway removed the child’s IV line, placed her in an oversized handbag, and walked out of the hospital with Carlina hidden from view. While Joy and Carl desperately searched for their daughter over the years, Pettway was raising Carlina as Nejdra “Netty” Nance in Bridgeport, Connecticut – a mere 45 miles from New York City. As Carlina grew older she began to suspect Pettway was not her birth mother and launched her own investigation. After contacting the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Carlina was reunited with her biological parents in January 2011.

I dont care nor think its fair to the birth parents that carlina treats them the way she does. Theyve already hurt enough. For her i know its hard to cut off the ppl she thought were family but she needs to in order to move on in truth because she woulnt of known them had that crazy lady not took her. Carlina has a daughter she needs to think how she would feel if that happened to her kid and her kid still treats the kidnapper good. Carlina never really told that lady off instead she denied her own birth name. To me shes acted like a ghetto childish person, never wanting whats best.

Also then she sounds even more stupid to say she dont care, its good enough just knowing her real family roots. What the heck. I just didnt care for her or the way she did them. It would of been better to stay unknown cause now they hurt all over again. Carlinas not a strong person, very uncaring towards her real family. The other life was all built on a lie so let it all go. Then to take her girl to the jail to visit, shes nuts like that lady to me. She looks silly too but to her she sounds smart.

I dont understand why Carlina is not talking to her birth parents. It’s not like they did something to her. At the end of the show it was like a plea from her parents to get her to contact them. I’m not saying forget about the Pettways because they seem to be very supportive, but she needs to reunite with her biological parents and try to build a relationship with them. Carlina stated “now I know who my real parents are.” Ok that doesn’t mean move on and close the chapter. This is not a to be continued….Her parents didn’t give up and the least thing she can do is have a relationship with them. I most definitely didnt like the conclusion.

I think its selfish on Carlina’s part to cut off her real parents she doesn’t know the pain she is causing them but I guess she never really will know until it happens to her like put yourself in their shoes they searched hard to find you but its okay to associate with the other family but think about the lost relationships, lost family time and you take them for granted I feel sorry for her not wanting that relationship

It’s natural for the public to conclude that  Carlina has a  non-supportive attitude towards her biological family; however, from a psychological perspective, Carlina is certainly in need of counseling. For twenty-three years of her life, she has lived under another an assumed identity and now,  to suddenly find that you are not whom you believed yourself to be, is the most traumatic emotional blow anyone could comprehend. I’m sure she is flooded with a myriad of emotions. She is acting out the best way she can to cope with the trauma. There is a psychological condition called, “Stockholm Syndrome” which is a phenomenon where a captive sympathizes with their captor by expressing empathy. It appears that Carolina is experiencing this phenomenon. Hopefully through time she will come around.
