A&E Casts Freddie Highmore in ‘Bates Motel’ September 16, 2012 A&E, Bates Motel, News Back in July the cable network A&E announced they were ordering a new series called Bates Motel that would chronicle the life of young Norman Bates, the character made famous by Anthony Perkins in the classic film ‘Psycho’. Now news has broken that young actor Freddie Highmore will star in the prequel series as the legendary serial killer with film actress Vera Farmiga starring as his mother Norma. The thriller will explore Norman’s relationship with his mother, taking a look at the backstory that forged the infamous psychopath. Movie goers will recognize Highmore for his roles in the films ‘Finding Neverland’, ‘August Rush’, ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’ and ‘The Art of Getting By’. He also had a small role in the made-for-TV movie ‘The Mists of Avalon’. ‘Bates Motel’ comes from executive producers Carlton Cuse (‘Lost’) and Kerry Ehrin (‘Friday Night Lights’) and is expected to debut sometime next year on A&E.
